Vista and Chat Logs

Since Vista is weird about Documents and Settings (Access Denied) where do all of those chat logs go? How do I access them?

If you're getting an access denied message, you need to turn off UAC (User Account Control). Use any of the methods here (#4 is least hassle) -

If you don't have 'show hidden folders' enabled, then do that also. In any of the Windows Explorer windows, go into Tools > Folder Options > View. Then check 'show hidden files and folders'.

You'll then find the logs in:

C:\Users\[Name]\AppData*\Roaming\SecondLife

(*hidden folder)

The logs will be under the avatar's name, together with screenshots of last location and (if you have one set) your home location.

You can re-set your logs to save to any location on your hard drive (I have a folder called 'SL Logs' in My Documents) by editing the Communication tab of Preferences when you're logged into SL. Click the 'Change path' button at the bottom of the window and browse to the folder you want the logs to be saved in from now on.

Disabling UAC is the big one, Weston. Once you've done that, Vista will change from folded arms and 'Nuh-uh' to 'aww, well okay then'
