This isn't just a sad one for the girls.
I've buried two friends this past year from drug and alcohol addiction. In the past week we've seen the deaths of Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger. Addiction is a serious and sad disease that affects everyone. To make this apply to the forums: There is a very active Alcoholics Anonymous group in SL. Check out either the Alcoholics Anonymous Group or the Friend of Bill W group. If you have a friend or family member suffering and you need some support then seek out Friends of Lois W. You don't have to do this alone. _____________________
My interest in SL has simply died. Thanks for all the laughs

Abuse of the forums will likely start to turn folks away from here. So if you think its cool to do whatever, then do it, but don't blame others for the forums demise.

That is really sad news. And further proof that money, power, fame etc. won't bring you the happiness and peace you seek. /returns to reading his Eckhart Tolle.

They don't know if it was a suicide yet, by the way. They just found non-perscription sleeping pills near him. Could have been unintentional.

Not only are you powerless to do anything, but you also feel you have to deal with all the anger and sadness on your own. Who are you going to tell? I wish I knew then what I have learned since, that there are people out there that are able to help. Sad news when anyone dies from addiction, not just actors. |

It is very sad news, he still had many many years to develop his acting skills.
This is part of the story I read on MSNBC.com Ledger told The New York Times in a November interview that he “stressed out a little too much” during the Dylan film, and had trouble sleeping while portraying the Joker, whom he called a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy.” “Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” Ledger told the newspaper. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” He said he took two Ambien pills, which only worked for an hour, the paper said. Just want to elaborate more about Ambien. It's a pretty serious prescription pill. I lost a good friend late last year who was taking them as they were prescribed by her doctor to help with sleeping/migraines. If he was taking 2, and they only worked for 1 hour! He must have been trying/using other types of sleeping meds. So it might have been a accidental overdose. (Being in the same story it talked about he and Michelle Williams separating this last year could have also added to his sleeping problems. |

Yeah, it sucks.
Of course, to me it sucks more when an officeworker father of 2 with chronic lower back pain takes one too many flexiril, falls asleep while driving, and dies on the interstate. And really it sucks more when an ugly teenage girl who's being badgered by her classmates decides to walk into a busy intersection. It sucks a WHOLE lot more when an abused twelve year old boy who is nearly without hope runs away, lives on the street, and dies when his body is hollowed out by disease and crystal meth. It even sucks more when an elder in pain, living with her daughter and son-in-law, decides not to be a burden and takes the only way out ... not eating for 3 weeks. Yes, it sucks that a promising, fairly young actor died because he couldn't handle the ebb and flow of adulation. But a whole shitload of people die silently, unrecognized, in anguish - without ever having experienced the fulfillment of one dream, let alone the admiration of millions. /me stares at this completely misplaced thread moodily www.sluniverse.com has very good general discussion forums, and a thread on this very topic. _____________________

Nika - it doesn't necessarily have to do with being able to handle adulation. Or a broken heart. It hasn't been determined whether or not it was suicide or even an overdose, and they are saying now that he had pneumonia.
It's not any less sad than any of the other sad stories you wrote of. These things are relative. To those who loved him, it was the saddest tale of all. coco _____________________

He was really cute guy and I am sorry he died.
I wondered when I saw this why he had died. Then I thought about that phrase, "I just can't quit you." I wonder about AA or other 12 step programs in SL. _____________________
