Land fee question~

I had a small parcel of 4650m and was paying a $25.00 a month land fee, but sold the parcel a few months ago. I checked activity and am no longer being charged. I just went to try to purchase a 512m parcel and it said I would be paying a $25.00 monthly fee for 512m if I purchased. Is this true? I can't have 512m tier free land because I payed $25.00 a month for over a year for my old place?
I rent a place now and even got rid of my private island property, but know if my landlord wants to go belly-up, I lose my home with no notice. I wanted to set up personal primbanks and slexchange/onrez boxes somewhere permanantly. Not for 25 bucks a month though. lol.

I guess the long-short question is "Do I need to do something to have the land fee revert to free for 512 meters or will I always be charged old tier?" If the latter is the case, then there really is no reason to be premium anymore!

Have you checked your account on the SL website? If you sign into 'My Account', click on 'land fees' (to the right), you should be able to select the tier level you want, in this case 0m^2

Was the former land group owned and did you withdraw your tier from the group if it was?

Check your land tier setting on the web site. Also look and World>My Land and see what those are telling you. If you really do not have any tier donated and don't own any land then you should be able to purchase 512 sq m without any monthly fee.

Hiya Jax,

I not sure what's happening there but your reuired tier should go up and down as your land onwership increases or decreases. Renting on a private estate has no bearing on tier requirement.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I will post a solution or suggestion here soon.
(LOL, and it appears they already have)

Actually Tex, the tier will go UP as required, but she needs to log in to the land fees page to set her tier back DOWN. Tricky, eh?

;)

Thanks guys,
I just went to the page it says that 512m is $5 a month. It's not free anymore. I know free land went away, but didn't know they added a tier.

[addendum]
Just tp'd to 512 meter plot after relogging and yup, it's free.

Thanks Hiro, Kathy, Tex, and Oryx. :)

There should be an option below that: 0m^2, and on that tier level you should still be able to hold 512m^2. Or have LL changed that?

Your first 512 is still free. It's just very confusing on the website. The first 512 is called your Premium bonus.

That's a common misconception.

The *mainland* tier is based on the maximum (square metres owned + square metres donated) in the month leading up to bill date.
The tier level on the land fees page is simply a warning level.
If the you were on the US$25 level for *mainland*, then the land in question would have been a maximum of 4096m (US$25) + 512m (free of tier) = 4608m.

If you then sold the land, the tier would drop to US$0 after the next bill date.
If you subsequently bought more land, the system would not warn of a tier jump unless the land purchased was greater than the 4096m level.
The only function of the tier level in the land fees page is to set the level at which a tier-jump warning will be displayed during land purchase.

If we are talking about mainland then I think that Kathy Morellet's response was on target.

Check "World/My Land". How much land does the system show for your "allowed land holdings at current payment plan" and "Current land holdings"?
Note that "Current land holdings" includes any donated tier.

You may find some clues there.

On the other hand, you account might be a bit borked - in which case a support ticket would be appropriate.

The tier will go up but the purchaser will recieve a notice inworld that the land they are purchasing will take them to the next tier level.

If you have no land in any 1 month or the past 30 days when your billing is due, regardless of your tier level that you had the previous month you will not be charged.
From the start you can set your tier level at a whole sim for U$195.00, this does not mean you will be charged U$195.00, it means that this is the land you can own before you are reminded that your tier level will increase if you purchase more land.
Land Tier charges are charged as per the TOS for the maximum amount of land held in the previous 30 days, not the tier level you are on. I know some may disagree but my Tier Level has been set at a whole sim ever since I joined and I only pay for half a sim which I own.

With regards to the OP' question, he/she must check the "My Land" option inworld from the "World" menu to see if there is tier donated to a group and the group it is donated too.

From the SL main Account you can see what tier is donated to groups by selecting the "Group Land" to the right of the page under "LAND".

However, what does seem misleading is that the OP has mentioned that afer selling the land a few months ago they are no longer being charged. So in actual fact if no charge was incurred then no tier could of been donated to a group.

My only conclusion here is that the OP, is either paying tier that they are not aware of, (silly to say but can happen) or there is a bug in the system in which case a Support Ticket would need to be filed.

In addition, the tier you pay is excluding the 512sqm bonus, so if you pay tier for 4096sqm you can actually own 4608sqm before your tier level will increase. for paying tier on 512sqm you can own 1024sqm before any increases etc etc etc.

Just add 512sqm to your current tier level and that is the maximum amount of land you can own before you increase your tiers.
