My business partner and I toying with the idea, as are several other merchants on Zindra, of demo-ing our products with videos, to be posted on blogs/websites and maybe streamed into screens in shops.

I don't think anyone's planning on hard-core pixel-porn (I'm certainly not) but, in the nature of things, the videos are likely to be NSFW and I'm in two minds about whether they would be suitable for YouTube. I know there are plenty of hosting services for user-generated porn and I've had a look at some (courtesy of Wikipedia, before anyone starts making ribald remarks) but I, personally, am not too keen on using one of them.

Anyone got any suggestions about other places we might investigate? Or should I just find my own, paid, site and put our stuff there?

You can host your own from your own web site. Costs what? $5 to $10 a month? Some cheaper. Make sure the mime type is set for mp4 properly to video instead of audio.

Talk to the @Home and Treettv people.

@Home hosts a couple of 'SL broadcasters' on its TVs, including treettv.

TreetTV does a veriety of shows, some of which have commercials.

@Home TVs include an adult mode, but there is no adult SL network. But I suspect they'd be very interested in one if it were to come about.

@Home TVs are rezzed all over the Grid...

- very good opportunity there for exposure.

There is also Metaverse - which has TVs and its own network, but it is not as frequently updated.

Treettv seems to do daily shows, Metaverse is more like weekly to biweekly. But both give out free TVs as well. The @Home TV is not free, though @Home makes treet's free TV.

You'd do yourselves a big favor going with an established network - people can only rez so many TVs on their land after all.

I've got @Home TVs in my cafe on mainland and my shop on Zindra, and a free treettv in my home skybox. I use the one in my cafe to host reggae videos, the one in my Zindra shop is set up with a bunch of porn that you can enable on them, but I'm not much on the porn myself so my home one just has the treettv network with its quirky shows about Second Life. :)

Thanks, all, for the recommendations. I will almost certainly follow Ann's advice in the long-term, if I decide to go ahead with this seriously, but first I want to test the water by making two or three little infomercials to see how effective they are and how difficult and, most importantly, how much fun they are to do, before actually setting up our own website. So I will certainly take up Couldbe's kind offer in the hope this provides a suitable host, at least in the short term while we decide what to do next.

And thank you, Pussycat.. I hadn't thought of running them on one of the established networks in SL but that certainly opens up a lot of possibilities.
