Hi All,
I am an university student trying to do a project in Second Life. We have a parcel of land and I tried playing a video on a movie screen there. I have followed step by step process of converting youtube videos into MP4 format (after following step by step process of making the movie screen with the defualt media texture) but the screen never plays the movie. When I click the play button for the streaming video- it says streamin but the movie screen jus remains same or gets into a particular design (white bg with some colour streaks). Can you please provide any answers for this? It really has been frustrating as it seems so simple but jus doesnt work for me. Do we have to install Quicktime player in my system for it to play?
I also tried showing a webpage in the screen and to my dismay, it doesnt work.
I tried streaming a MP3 music bit (Music URL) by following the demo video and again, nothing happens.
I know I am doing somethign fundamentally wrong. Can you point out what it could be?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have streaming media enabled in your preferences? Yes, you need Quicktime.

Yes, I have enabled it in preferences.
I am going to Install QT for the streaming video.
Between, any reasons for the webpage and music URL not to work? Does it depend on QT as well?

If you give us an url for one of the converted videos someone might test to see if the videos work for them.

I usually work from my University system where I have admin rights to download, etc. But whenever i try to connect my yahoo messenger, I am not able to do it.
Whenever I open a browser/ QT player- I am asked for login credentials.
Can this issue be connected to firewalls or something?

Could indeed be a firewall thing. BTW, Quicktime should already be installed on the system you are using, or else SL wouldn't start, IIRC.

youtube mp4 videos won't always work. try using: http://www.youtubemp4.com/video/VIDEO_ID.mp4you can use that url for all youtube videos by inserting the youtube video ID. for example for your video: http://www.youtubemp4.com/video/OxmBvsalMF4.mp4

The Youtube link is dead even in a normal browser, but I read yesterday they have a time limit on them.

I first tried converting the video into a MP4 format using a tool. The video was stored in our server. It still didnt play in our land. The video link in our server was: http://www.networkengineering.org.au/RMIT_NetworkEngineering_Information_V2http://www.networkengineering.org.au/RMIT_NetworkEngineering_Information_V1Is there something wrong with the naming convention of these files? I am going to try the youtube suggestion given! Thanks for all the help. Shankar
