Maintenance Land

There are three small plots in a row marked maintenance next to my land on one side, and on the other side of the plots are protected Linden roadside. I know protected Linden land never goes up for sale, but what about maintenance? I have read elsewhere on the forms that maintenance eventually goes up for auction, but how would I know when? Since this is next to my land, is there a way to offer to buy it before it goes up for auction?

File a support ticket detailing the parcel locations and your interest in buying them, that will speed up the process. I've come across Guy Linden on several occasions the last two weeks while he was cleaning up the small pieces of abandoned land and selling it to adjacent land owners, so either way it will probably be offered to you eventually.

Try the Abandoned Land FAQ:

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=4570

Will Linden Lab sell abandoned land directly to me if my claim on it is good enough?

This can sometimes be tricky, but there are cases in which a Resident may have a pretty good claim to abandoned land. These can include but aren't necessarily limited to:
  1. The land I own borders three sides of an abandoned parcel.
  2. The land I own completely encircles an abandoned parcel.
  3. There is a parcel of abandoned land directly between my land and another Resident's land, but the other Resident has stated that he has no interest in owning the abandoned parcel.
  4. The land must always be less than 512 square meters.
In many cases, there's no single Resident who has a very strong claim to a particular abandoned parcel, in which case it goes to auction.

EDIT TO ADD: Send in a support ticket.

I sent in a support ticket, and when I hear back from LL, I'll update my original question.

Thanks Hugsy!

Great name...

If you have 'Land for sale' checked in the map, and the parcels are colored purple on it, they'll come up for auction, but there is no way of knowing when. You just have to watch the auctions page.

As Hugsy pointed out, LL will sometimes sell you the land (at L$1/m) if they see fit according to their criteria. 512m is the limit - not "under 512m" as the quote says. I recently got a 512 that way because I occupied 3 sides of it, but I failed to get another 512 because I only occupied 2 sides of it, and possibly because I'd just got the first one a day earlier. I did get it in auction though.

good luck

I have bought a plot from linden that was a 512 plot, I owned on 3 sides of it

I was not sure I would get it, being the guidelines are iffy on that part (saying it needs to be less than 512)

maybe I just got lucky

The Lindens joined the three small plots and I was able to buy them today. The land was in a former adfarm area so I think my ability to buy them had to do with the fact I wasn't going to use them as an adfarm.
