RC 1.19.1 has a Debug Settings option called RenderResolutionDivisor the makes the display look bad, rather like the avatar impostor settings, but can speed client FPS dramatically.

This might be useful at times.

How do you find these things Suezanne? :)

Searching with Google turned up this description, "Divisor for rendering 3D scene at reduced resolution."

Reading the SL Chat inworld group's group IM chat is how I came up with that.

The only place I know of to find a list of the debug values other than the list in the viewer is in the source code. There doesn't seem to be a list stored in the Second Life program folders. I'm not sure there is a plain, simple, all in one place with no extra programming junk mixed in list of them in the source code, but there should be some kind of list of most of them somewhere. There has to be such a list in some fashion, or else the debug list in the viewer would be sent from the server, which is possible, but not how it's done, I suspect.

I suppose there might be somewhere in your computer's memory while running Second Life that you could find the list. Seems likely. I guess you'd put "ram reader" and " find strings in memory" and such into Google to find a program to do that sort of search.

One time I tried to do screen captures of the entire debug settins list, but that only gets you the titles.

It would be quite useful to have a list of them along with explanations on the web for easy access and reading by every interested party.

I have started at the top of the debug list and worked my way through reading the descriptions of each variable several times, but not with any recent versions.

A nice feature would be to have a text to speech reader read stuff like that, you could absorb a bit of that running in the background while music played in the foreground and doing something in SL .

It's possible that some crackerjack youngster is putting current complete lists of the debug features in the sl wiki but I haven't seen them.

;) My SL was so improved by reducing my draw distance to 48 on a laptop (doubled my FPS! :) ) and I keep both Camera and FocusOffsetDefault so I'm not always looking at the ground in front of my feet, but can actually see vendors when shopping thanks to your earlier threads letting me know about these features! :D

So I just searched the wiki and found out where the list is (settings.xml) and used a macro thingy to reformat it and add it to the Debug Settings page... I'm not a crackerjack youngster by any means but... LOL

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Settings

Unfortunately my list is from 1.19.0.2, but I added RenderResolutionDivisor, anyone want to add any other new settings? ;)

Setttings.xml only stores the settings that have been changed from default, probably done just to aggravate me.

One could, umm, save a copy of their current settings.xml to a different name, then change every setting in the entire debug settings list to something other than its default value, then exit SL, save the settings.xml list to a different name, then copy the previously saved on back over top of the settings.xml so that you end up with a normal copy of settings.xml and a copy under a different name that has every debug setting in the list stored in in.

That wouldn't take any brain power, just the will to click many times and type in some values.

I found the additional settings in the RC source code, they are done as changes to the older code, thus leaving us humans with no straightforward and orderly list for us to browse through.

/me giggles, which explains why all the ones I knew to look for were there... Hmm, wonder if that could be automated, doesn't cursor down move through them?

There are string finders to search through files, that's what Strife Onizuka was doing a long time ago, and I've done that too. I don't recall that the explanations came in place with the variable names.

If finally finished running and formatting them into wiki columns... Think anyone will ever update that wiki page ever again? ;)

(Although I left it sorted as they are in the files, with the user part at the end of the shared part, I don't know if it would be better alphabetical? If so, could that be done in a spreadsheet maybe?)

I remember looking at that llcontroldef.cpp file a while back.

Making it into a nice chart like the one in the wiki now was too much bother.

That chart in the wiki is very nice.

Now it can be google searched in a straightforward way. (or it will be when Google gets it indexed).

Interestingly, I used RenderResolutionDivisor in a skybox and doubled the FPS, I just tried it at a concert with 25ish people and the FPS didn't change oddly enough...
