A number of users have told me they were able to send IMs during the recent grid shutdowns even while logins were closed and the monkeys were banging.

IMs simply got delivered to the recipients' mailboxes after a short delay so they were actually able to open up an outworld line of communication.

Makes sense Slack. IMs are carried separately to SL anyway and we could offline during routine maintenance in the past. Yay!

It's a simple to use web based interface that lets you send IMs to residents inworld without logging on to SL.

Amongst other things it comes in handy if you've planned a wedding and can't logon while your partner is hanging on wondering what happened to you.

I recommend tp-ing over to chuginadak 229, 247 and touching one of the communicators... that will give you a code that you can use to authenticate your messages.
