The First Land program was removed over 6 months ago.
To buy land on the mainland, you have to upgrade to a Premium account and pay tier of your owned property exceeds 512sqm. You don't need a Premium account to buy or rent land on a private estate, instead you must pay a rent or fees in L$. |

First land was discontinued in Febuary. They need to update their FAQ.
Don't buy your land through auction! You will overpay. You get a thousand more choices by going through land search inword. Sort by "For Sale: Mainland". 1. In the SL, click the Find button at the bottom of the screen. 2. Select the Land Sales tab. 3. Select For Sale: Mainland from the dropdown menu. 4. Click Search. 5. Sort by price per L$meter 6. Start looking at the 512 plots in the search results. No auction. No delay. You buy it outright and if you have the $L, you can buy instantly. Base price tonight is L$4000 per 512 or L$7.9 a meter. Nicer land will cost you a bit more. _____________________

First Land has gone the way of the dodos, but if you are premium you can own 512m2 of mainland without incurring tier fees. Larger parcels than that will require tier fees. Private Island rental requires no premium status but has its own problems - any land purchase should be researched to avoid heartache.

Thanks for the fast response. I am Premium. Is there a delay for newbies to buy land on the auctions?

"For Sale: Mainland". Remember that one, ConductorX. Safest route unless you rent form a respectable SIM owner. I spent a lot of time looking for my 'first land' only to find out they stopped releasing them months before the program was terminated. if I had only found the forums sooner...lol |

The whole land process seems to be a disappointment. I tried to search for land up to a certain size and it returned every thing. The only land with a decent price was on the auctions. Searching main land didn't turn up anything.
Very disappointing process, I don't see how anything gets done. :G: _____________________

You should see results. Auction prices may start low but they wont end up that way. _____________________

It seems like I won't be able to buy much land until I am Inworld a bit longer. 512m is a bit small for what I have in mind and I set my budget for a max of 2560m. I'll go hang in the sand box and work on my structure building skills. "G" _____________________

"G" as for the question that never got answered (do premium have to wait to buy land via auction) I don't think so doesn't matter if we think it is a bad thing to do, the answer should have been given to the question right? when did you become premium? if it was very recent, it might be that the system has not caught up _____________________

My account today (Sunday) says my land limit is 512. True the question wasn't answered but since I don't plan to buy through an auction any more I'll have to see what happens Inworld when I choose a place to live. Thanks again. I am always impressed by how fast questions are answered here. "G" _____________________

To check it out right now, just try the Buy Land process on any old land of the size you think you will buy. Just don't click on the final 'Yes'. ![]() The system will tell you what the purchase would do to your tier. It will advise that you have to purchase additional L$ if your balance is lower than the price. I have no idea if it would at that stage (before confirming the purchase) advise about trading limits. Trading limits are explained under that heading on the SL website https://secure-web21.secondlife.com/currency/describe-limits.php _____________________

I am now a big time land owner. 512m Many thanks to everyone for thier help. I found some Mainland for sale and what I felt was a fair price. No Auction and I looked at buying Island property but decided to wait until I have more experience.
Looks like the good Linden folks that run the place won't let me have any more until I am here for a full two weeks. Thanks again everyone, "G" _____________________
