Interesting on CSI that a head shot from a .45 auto didn't leave an exit wound large enough to basically remove the back of the victims' heads. The round shown should have also mushroomed much more significantly. The damage a .45 does is UGLY esp at close range.

so the question is, "what have we observed when we've shot someone in the head with a .45"?

Rather "How accurate is CSI's portrayal of facts?". Judging from the easy-peasy way they set up a gorgeous avatar... not that accurate.

Maybe they were using prefragmented rounds, Glaser Safety Slugs, and the bullet didn't retain enough mass to penetrate the back of the skull?
Don't know, I didn't watch the show.

Have to be pretty nervous when the topic of the thread is how realistic a murder was with regards to body damage.

What amazes me is someone can be sitting 6" from a flatscreen monitor, have an entry wound in the occipital lobe, a fairly good (though too small) exit wound in the forehead, and yet the monitor is pristine and functioning.
If you sneak up behind someone and fire a round through their head, their monitor will be smoked.
Also, if you fire a brass-jacketed .45 slug at point blank into the back of someone's head, typically their face disappears.

About the same as an original 38 cal S&W. Cycles well, not much damage to the bullet and no exit wound.

the .45 ACP is a large, slow moving round. Additionally the gun had a silencer slowing the round even further. Considering it was being used by a professional assassin it also may have been loaded to a reduced power level so as to reduce sound and penetration.
I have seen a .45 ACP fired point blank in to a plastic barrel and not exit the other side and a human skull is a lot tougher then most people suspect.

.... could've been AP? I mean it was a pro, so they might just go loaded for bear as a default... just in case. Although it'd be wierd to use AP with silencer. can't say about the monitor... maybe an off angle? devil's in the details oh and Annabelle, you're my kinda girl =) just remind me not to piss you off

Well, if it was a professional, why not a 22 LR conversion kit. Low report, no recoil, the favored choice of Mafia and Israeli assassins.

Okay - I don't know much about guns - but this is a bit messed up. Why do we give them a huge pass on the whole Second Life not being accurate thing in the show when they had paid consultants (the ESC people) helping. Yet nit-pick about a gun and whether the results were gory enough? It was TV - theres guidelines on how nasty it can be. Its not See-Saw 5.

Maybe they put industrial strength kevlar-based adhesives on instead of make-up by accident (easy mistake to make if you store your make-up in an oil drum!) and thus their face was too heavily reinforced for the bullet to leave =)

What I find distressing is that the average american can just sit around all day watching shows about people getting their heads blown off...but when a boobie appears on national tv, the country has a meltdown.
We, truly...as a species....have no hope...unless we see more boobies. Lots more.

Aw, that's sad. Isn't there some substance abuse agency you can turn to for help? I love Fridays.

I love Fridays. Yes, I was sad to read that. To think that someone's comment caused someone else to snort coke. Ah well, the way the world works always amazes me.
