The Reluctant Retailer Returns

I did the math last night. I have seventeen items on XStreetSL, all of them free. I don't want to take money from fellow users. I don't think my stuff if that good. I have noticed that what I make is extremely useful to a certain segment of the SL population. I make mainly modest apparel, work safe stuff for myself and I'd like to make what I wear available to others. My market from what I can tell is educators, other working folks, conservative/evangelical Christians, and any female avatar who says: "I want to cover my belly." or "Those clothes are...."

Once the changes go into effect, if I stay on XStreetSL I will pay $6.83/month to sell my freebies and have to add .40 every time I add another item.

I need to move elsewhere. Here are the choices I have so far...

1) Stick a vendor machine on my land and pay to get listed in search. I have a 512. I have 30-40 prims unused. I can do some rearranging. The downside of my land is that it is crowded now. Also I'm not in an area that gets much walk through traffic. The cost is minimal.

2) Find someone willing tolet me use their retail area as a distribution site. There's a garage sale nearby. I'm not sure original content belongs in a garage sale.

3) There's Eternal Creations and some of the other nonprofit areas. Both of these are closed groups and I am a member, but not part of the inner circle. Even though asking for a couple of prims to put up a multi-item vendor is a "small favor," those who run these places may not consider it so, even though those who frequent these spots are often my customer base. I hate to beg.

Those are the cheap options. The more expensive ones are:

1) Rent a mall stall and advertise. I did the math. Nearly any mall stall is cheaper than XStreetSL is going to be. 200L/Week is much less than 1683L/Month. Also, I'll be able to increase my inventory at no extra charge. The problem is that most of the malls with which I am familiar are Brazilian and that's not my customer base.

2) Get rid of my 512 and buy that ideal, road side land at the end of the road. This means $5.00/month in tier but it is cheaper than XStreetSL and gives me room to expand. I all ready have a store sturcture in my inventory. It is a big innovation and it's only 15 prims not counting the multi item vendors.

OK, any advice?

Note: I did not list Slapt.me as an option. I visited the site and right now I wouldn't shop there. I wouldn't shop in most malls either except to window shop. They dont' have what I want. When I have shopped for things, I've usually gone to merchants who have large, dedicated main stores. Most of what I buy are sculpties and animations.

Also, I have another question: Is there any way to retail PSD templates in world? I can use a media broadcaster to pull up a web page from which users can dowload the templates to make their own clothes. That feels like a kluge to me.

There are a couple of options you missed out:-

Take your stuff off XSL and call that it. Every possible freebie doesn't *have* to be made available and, since their availability isn't beneficial to you, just remove them.

Give them to a few freebie places and let them spread around that way.

I am considering opening my half sim to people who would like to list (rez) their freebies, free of charge. And their for-sale items, on a percentage only basis.

Or, leaving SL.

Right now it's a tossup.

I seem to have misunderstood your questions in the other thread :)

Which ones?

I wrote this after those posts. As this sinks in I won't be the only one wavering, I'm sure.
