Offline message history

When I logged on after a long absence, I clicked through a lot of dated group notices - and apparently lost a couple of offline IMs

Can I somehow view the IMs that I "clicked through", or are t hey now lost forever?

Also, can I make SL no longer give me the offline group notices when I log on? In this way I could get and read the real IMs. Most group notice are just events that are long past, anyway.

In preferences, you can choose to have your offline messages go to your email - this should send them all even after they get capped inworld. Other than not receiving notices at all from a group, you cannot pick and choose -- i.e. only receive them when online, unless you want to remember to click and unclick the check-box that has you receiving group notices at all.

To see past notices, I think you can just get Info on the group, the Notices tab, and sort them by date to find the recent ones. Individual IMs are different: I'm not sure, but I'd expect those to appear in the IM history for whoever sent them, assuming IMs are being logged.

IMs to me will only get into my logs if I am logged on or if they come in before things get capped (because they do not really go to my logs until I log in again), otherwise, the only way I can see the IM is via the email.

If you have IM logging on, you can find those old IMs. You need to look in the preferences for the location of your communications and then you can find the text files with the IMs.

But once they are capped, they do not come thru at all and therefore they will not even be in the logs. And the default used to be to not log them, so if the OP never changed that, they still will not be in the logs.
