I hope someone can tell me why my SL is freaking out on me, all was well.. then all of a sudden my SL window started doing really funky things, strange patterns etc.. I got a snapshot when I reloged and signed on again, the same thing is going on when I complete the sign on its like its on acid or something... . I am going to reboot my PC right now, but this is not the first time it has happend to me..

I figure its a video card issue, but am am 95% sure I have the current drivers installed..
GForce 8800

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tarina

What operating system do you have? Windows XP? Vista? Mac?

What version of Second Life are you running? (Help/About Second Life menu)

Are you using the Windlight viewer, and does it look like this

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3258

within the viewer?

If it is the same problem as the JIRA entry, it can be 'fixed' by going into Preferences, Graphics, and shutting off VBO.

Windows VISTA business, SL 1.18.3 (5)

I have a 5.3 rated PC. Intel Duo II E6550 @ 2.33GH
2gig ram
and the NVIDA GForce 8800 GTS driver 7.15.11.6375

No im not using windlight, I have the viewer installed -windlight-) But since I can't see under the water I dont use it.... And this happend once before, before I installed the windlight viewer.
While I was closing out to reboot the PC, I noticed I have the clothing previewer open as well..

So, it is also wacking that up...

And after I rebooted, its not doing it anymore.

And I dont see VBO... ??

I know this is gonna sound strange, but did you update your drivers?

And VBO is under the preferences, either Graphics/Adv. Graphics on older viewers and Graphics/Hardware affects Windlight.

I thought the VBO thing was only happening to the older Radeons?

Can you run other 3D applications and games without problems? If so, this may be a driver issue. I have an Nvidia 7950 GX2 and some drivers are causing the problems you are seeing. Finding a stable driver is what you'll need to do(this isn't always the newest one either).

If you are experiencing the same issues on other 3d applications and games, it might still be the driver issue I described above, but it's more than likely a bad video card/system RAM or too much overclocking(that is if you are OCing).

For the latest triangle rendering thing, I had heard that too, but I know for a fact that some nVidia cards also have issues with VBO. I can't enable VBO without turning the texture on every scripted object into a flickery 60's acid trip

does this have something to do with the Quicktime breach recently mentioned in the blog?

Ouch, see, the thing I'd read on it only mentioned the older Radeons. Mine doesn't seem to have the problem, thankfully.

I did have a bad (at the time new) driver one time that did something similar to the OP's, which affected the sky. Had to roll back one version and that fixed it, which is why I asked if the OP had updated the drivers.

lemme try to roll back drivers, but the issue is not consistant and I can go weeks without it happening again.. As I thought I had fixed it last time.. so far since I posted this. without doing anything but rebooting it is not happening again.
