So, I was moseying around SL tonight; randomly teleporting from the world map and I ran across a club with MY picture (SL *Me*) on the wall. It was a giant sign and it is mine. I take it as a compliment it was used, however no one asked me or anything. Is this allowed? Shouldnt I get paid? lol Seriously though, should I try to approach the owner and find out what is going on? Has this happened to anyone else before?

Was the picture the same as the picture in your profile? I ask because there is a script that randomly chooses nearby avatars and displays their profile picture on a prim. They might be using that script.

It was; I wondered if this was the case and tried setting my pic section as default or blank.however the system didnt pick up the change. I'll try it again, I suspect that is probably it as what is the likelyhood I just *happened* upon this.

Congratulations! I'd take it as a compliment if I were you. Why worry? Even if the club in question were a louche dive, what are the chances your av will be recognised? Will you even look like that tomorrow or in a month's time?

I wish someone other than me thought I were that gorgeous.

What Felix said. Most likely it was one of these "pick up profile pic and display on a prim" scripts in operation. Check inside the display for a script, that would be a clear indication.

yep that might be the case no one has steal your PIC or hacked your account or inv etc, its just a script using the sl search, if you dont whant this just uncheck "show in search" in your profile.

Why exactly are you worry your picks photo is shown? Are you afraid to be recognized on the street?

I'd expect this sort of thing to become more common, now that this content creator is leaving and giving all his inventory away for free.

Gives a whole new meaning to "Can I have your stuff?"

I'm happy to see my pic up in lights. The only slightly embarassing thing is that at one club I appeared to be wearing the same top as in my profile pic. Actually it was a different top but it looked very similar and I was paranoid that people might think I don't have many clothes.:D :D

For some reason this makes me sad though it didn't stop me from helping myself to the free stuff being given away. When you go to the slurl, it says "land abandoned by Clive London Oct 2008" and it is owned by Gov Linden. I wonder if Gov Linden left that description there as a kind of memorial?

That seems to get populated automatically when an owner explicitly abandons a parcel, and stays that way until somebody asks for the land to be put in the auction queue. I've only really noticed it the last six months or so, but it may have always done it for all I know.

the first time i had seen one of those i thought the same thing..
i had just changed my profile pic a couple days earlier..it was from some modeling shoot i had done and the image was actually for sale at the studio that i did the shoot..so i figured i would IM the club owner thanking them for their picking my picture for their club..

the first reaction was more like "Who is this and what are you talking about" lol

then they told me about the profile pic grabber or whatever they are called..
I replied..ok i'm just gonna go sacrifice myself now to the god of stupidity..
this conversation never took place..
she laughed and i went to mount stup for a jump :o

removing show in search isn't limiting if it uses the direct address grab, which returns better results than the actual searc anyways.

LL really should hide those direct pages instead of just ignoring them on searches but ::shrug::

This is AR able if there is not a drop down request box.

One example recently of when you do *not* want your picture was a girl who complained that the Veiwer in the Sex Club next door to her home was grabbing her picture and making her look like a *very* regular customer
