Ok, laugh away. It's a total newbie question. How do I get the furniture out of my inventory and into my new apartment. It's freebie furniture. I tried wearing it and then detaching but nothing. Help please

Open inventory and grab the item you want and drag it to the floor. If it is boxed, you'll need to right click, select Open, select Copy to Inventory which will give you a new folder and you then pull those items out to the floor.
BTW - that is called 'rezzing' the item.

. . . and if it's facing the wrong direction, right click it, select EDIT and you should be able to rotate it any direction you need. Also raise or lower as needed.

then drag the box from your inv window onto the ground.

Getting stuff out of inventory was probably the first thing to really confuse me so I'm not laughing at the OP (maybe softly, in recollection of my own frustrations). Wear/attach had their own right/click options, so why not "drop" or something similar? I had a number of cars and bikes worn as hats before I realised (OK, someone told me) I had to drag them to the ground nearby. Only not too nearby, okay? Or you might drop it *on* your av and end up wearing it. AGAIN.
Only bloody-mindedness and the sheer potential of SL got me through that. If someone built an intuitive interface for SL now I'd probably be lost.
