You should probably start in the "scripting help" subforum farther down.

NCI offers some fantastic scripting classes. You should stop by there

There are real books about SL scripting. See Amazon Books.
You can Google for LSL Tutorials. You can use SL SEARCH to look for information about Scripting Tutorials. There are classes, and there are also poster sessions where you walk from sign to sign reading. You can obtain a box of free scripts at many newbie places, such as NCI, and read the scripts. Tehre are already some good scripts in your Library, and some of the objects in your Library have good scripts already in them. Read them and learn. Don't be impatient. For a new scripter it can be strange and frustrating. Don't give up. One day, you will be surprised to see that you are pretty good at i. _____________________

There is a cool program called "Autoscript" that lets you plug in what you want to do and the program writes the script for you. The program (web-based) is here:
http://3greeneggs.com/autoscript/ I first heard about it on a Torley Linden video tutorial which you can view here: http://secondlife.com/showcase/tutorials/ In the search window, type in "scripting" and you can watch Torley's tutorial on Autoscript. One of the easiest way to get started...as well as attending the NCI classes! _____________________

Also:
http://lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=LSLTutorials LSLWiki is *the* place for information. The tutorials are both quite good and brief, and the documentation on each function often contains useful examples. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Portal is the "official" wiki, and the place to go if you need information about specific quirks or details, or the latest additions, but it is not as overall helpful as LSLWiki.
