I'm gonna try to describe this best I possibly can, cause I'm not an overal technical person and never worked closely with sl textures. A few weeks ago I noticed a small seam in my neck. (basically think of it as a black colar on my skin around the neck).. A few nights ago the same seam is on the inside of my arm running vertically til my wrist and up the outside of my thumb and taking a large part of it in black..

Thinking I was ruthed I used a de-ruthing rocket from nci, cleared cache, reloaded sl. After that didn't work I uninstalled and removed the user files of sl / re-installed. I've even logged into another computer as my av and my alt and is showing on other computer + my alt can see that on my av. wtf? today bougtht a demo of the same skin and used my previous skin to test things but exactly the same thing on all skins... So I tried some of the shapes in library, modifying my own slightly.. nada

This all sounds like something else I can't control. Maybee wrong but this seem is there if I'm naked and on diff pcs, diff skins/shapes... I know linden won't care if I posted a complaint (cause I'm not paying customer) so perhaps here I can get some ideas or possibly someone to take another look at over there.

p.s. no, there was no changes, no recent updates or hardware replacing

Please, please help me!

You're running the latest version of SL, I take it?

What video cards? Latest drivers installed?

On the Edit/Preferences/Graphics/Custom tab, what options do you have checked/unchecked?

considering is on two machines I'm not sure settings or hardware could be a problem here... but here they are:

latest sl, settings have been tested using anti-alias/gl, recommended settings and disable avatar impersonation. Not sure of friends pc hardware but know it's latest sl client, ati hd 2400. He is a gamer so I'm sure he's got the latest stuff att of writting.

my system has been tested on osx and vista running bootcamp, and has been working for about 1.5month(s) and only change the last few weeks was removal of WoW and sl updated... which was working fine at start + my other av is not ruthed at all even using same alt skin as this one. Here's my hardware profile so you can make sense of:

This sounds very similar to something my partner had a few weeks ago - random small patches of black on her skin. Usually on the inside of her arm, but appeared elsewhere too.

It appeared randomly over a couple of weeks, she'd log on and it would be there, nothing got rid of it, clearing cache, relogging, rebooting, it would stay there. Some times changing skin seemed to get rid of it, sometimes not. Then the next day it would just be gone. It also affected one of her alts, but not the other.

Never found out what it was, but it stopped after 2-3 weeks.

Not much help I know, but if it is the same thing, at least it might go away on its own.

So it's definitely avatar related, in that your alt can see it on your main. I honestly don't know, since you've cleared cache... have you actually deleted the entire

Application Data/Second Life directory?

It might just clear up in a few days, too. You could try contacting Linden Lab and asking them about this, though chances are they'll say "deal with it."

good to know / confirmation

I'm sorry if I'm blunt or rude but at least knowing it happened somewhere else is somewhat conforting, also knowing it fixed itself is nice to know. I appreciate that Wulfric, and hope it follows same pattern as your partner.

yes, after backing up to zip. I deleted c:\users\[username]\appdata\roaming\second life
(vista's path). I also deleted any directory or file in other user directories and searched the hd after wards for term "second" and "sl" but found nothing else. I've since restored only my logs and re-enabled my settings.

I'd like to hear a bit more if anybody else has ideas or know of people who've seen this. May be a good idea to have this avail to linden if this is more common than just me and wulfric's partner. On that note, I will write more and if it does fix itself.

thanks to those who's helped so far :-)
