Looks like a wonderful gift for the Windows users, and seems like a well thought out selection of features. Is there anything out there for Mac that even comes close to this client? Or for Linux?

I don't see that he already has one, but perhaps Hyang Zhao could be persuaded to making a Rainbow Viewer build for Macs.

Give me some time, I made a Mac version a long time ago. Need to figure out how things work again :). Same goes for Linux. Current priorities are a new netbook viewer (based on 1.19.0.5) with a Windows and Linux version. I'm also thinking about a refreshment for the old school Nicholaz 1.18.0.6 viewer with more recent security patches. So this basically all targets clean lean speedy viewers. For features (and bloat) we already have Emerald :)

Having the radar built into the viewer is a major win for reducing script lag. (Or at least I assume it doesn't add its own load.) I didn't expect it to be polished in the first release, but I wonder if it would be possible to make a cleaner UI option for it in the future.

Normally all I need is the name and distance. The options and position are visual clutter most of the time, at least for me. I can shrink the position columns but not remove them. Worse, while the options part are transparent when it's not selected, the avatar list is opaque, so it currently obscures a significant chunk of screen real estate. I realize that it may be a pain to add a new type of UI component, other than the dialog boxes that already exist, but I'd really love something as clean as the typical radar - just name and distance, no background or window frame.

Also, I've discovered that I really like the audible alerts for chat range that Mystitool has. It's a big help when hosting, but it's also a help if I'm alone at some place and decide to do some RL stuff, waiting for visitors to show up.

(Yeah, I know, I'm never satisfied when it comes to UI stuff.)

Hmmm....all that is just in one single file you can edit yourself. You may have a look at skins/default/xui/en-us/floater_radar.xml.

Some design info to start with is here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Skinning_HowTo/Basics

Thank you very much, Boy Lane. I utterly detest the problems that the 1.23.x based clients introduced, in terms of skin vanishing or getting textured completely wrong. I will try your Rainbow viewer on my XP system, but it's my Mac I use most often.

Not sure how it is handled in this viewer, but since the feature is borrowed from Emerald, I'd like to mention that Emerald at least has an option to show radar readings as normal (owner) chat. No need to keep that window open there.

Yes, Rainbow does that too, and it's what I've switched to, but it's obviously not the same thing as what I want.

Changing the XML file has potential.

I tried Rainbow Viewer today and tried Cool Viewer again a day or two ago.

Both of them have the problem with distorted letters in the menu that I've had for so very long with all the viewers, but which went away with the current regular Linden Lab viewer, Emerald, and Snowglobe.

@Suezanne
Thats with Intel or ATI graphics? I have that on an older laptop with Intel GMA915. I think what helped was to change the font size slightly. Have to see if I can somehow reproduce it. On Nvidia all looks fine.
