Once you become eligible to be a Mentor, volunteer and if you get picked, you can go to more Orientation Islands than you can shake a stick at.
If you have specific questions you can ask them here in the forums, or to a good number of places such as NCI or the Shelter to ask questions and learn about SL.

You could create an alt who would begin their SL at Orientation Island and see if they could teleport you back there. Not sure if that would work - but the alt would be there and you'd be able to see the place as you watch the alt!!
