I store copies of any item that can be copied into a storage trunk at home as well as items I don't use regularly to keep a sleeker inventory. Today I pulled out three boxes (three separate outfits) from the trunk and none of them will rez. I have never had this happen before. I tried rezzing them in various locales in case it was some glitch in my home sim. Has anyone had this happen and/or any advice? Thanks so much

I hate to say this, but several people have reported older items just becoming unable to be rezzed like that. There has been no fix for it other than to delete and replace the things that won't rez.
There's a JIRA issue about it, but the Lindens haven't yet acknoweledged the problem. It appears to be a glitch in the asset database that only affected certain prim items that people had in inventory, and it appears to have happened 3 to 60 weeks ago, affecting random items that were in inventory at that time.

Errrmmm....just did a search on missing inventory to see where that low-lag sim was to go rez things missing in inventory and found another thread on this same issue. Going to go vote on the included jira.

I've had it happen before and I've never been able to get the items back.

I had so many Inventory items someone told me to put them in boxes and it would be a good storage system besides the ones you can buy in game. Well needless to say I lost all the items I put in there because the data base no longer has them. That happened to me about 1 1/2 years ago so now I have an overflowing inventory. I try to gain control and I dont shop much anymore unless its hair. But between the notecards, LM's, and random items people send me I am looseing a fighting battle. I sat there the other night while a friend kept telling me delete was my friend LOL delete, delete, delete... I just dont know why I cant just delete stuff. Plants, Furniture, buildings, textures, vendor set ups, etc. and OMG so many clothes!!!! Why am I keeping things I haven't looked at or seen in months and months? Is there a 12 step program or a group for "Inventory Horders"? You really dont want to know how many items I have. Lets just say like a few 10K to many and I delete but it just doesn't seem to make a dent. I know it looks like I side tracked this thread the OP started but I am thinking because I lost so many things in those so called "good way to store things boxes" That now I have a way past out of control Inventory.

It's the weekend and as usuall SL can't support more than 50k of residents and bots online. Our assert server is being hammered by bots teleporting at 23 sims per minute. Please vote for http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2289

If you are having this problem with inventory objects that have become unrezzable, please go to JIRA and vote for SVC-2129. It's easy to do, just go to this URL, login with your avatar name, and vote: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2129Even if you are not having this problem right now, please consider voting for this issue, because if the cause is not tracked down and fixed it might affect you too sometime.

I keep my inventory within reason by packing things in boxes. But a year or so ago, I learned not to do that with anything I wasn't willing to part with, because somethings things in boxes will never come back.

I was thinking of doing the following; sort things into a folder then date the folder as part of the name, anytime I access anything from that folder, move it to a new folder with the new date (usually the month and year), if I do not access a given folder in say 6 months or a year, delete the entire folder and contents, cuz if I am not using it in that time frame chances are I won't, or the asset server has already messed it up.

I've shoved things into boxes for storage but keep the boxes rezzed in world - someone said a while back that if things were stored in the contents of items rezzed in world - NOT in boxes inside of boxes in the contents - they'd be more likely to stick around. Of course, you end up using valuable prim space keeping a bunch of boxes rezzed, because you don't want to put everything in one box (assuming you want to find it again). You could potentially use pieces of furniture or whatnot as storage to save prim space. I haven't lost any of my storage boxes in the 6 months or so I've been doing this and I've been able to retrieve everything I've needed.
The only hazard is if there's a grid hiccup that makes all your stuff vanish off your land, you're kinda screwed. I've also started to use an alt to store backups of my really important stuff. It's kinda sad that we need to find multiple ways to store our stuff because every method has pitfalls.

Unfortunately, by going to vote on the jira and reading the comments there, plus the responses here, I see this is one of those SL "issues."
You're right, Puppet, there doesn't seem to be any totally safe method of inventory storage: items vanish from inventory, from storage on land, I'd bet someone has had clothes/hair/shoes, etc. vanish from off their AV!
I like your idea, Rhaorth - trying to figure out exactly how to set my inventory up that way.

I used this method thinking things would be safe within content tabs or in notecards, etc that I made except when I had to move and bring them into inventory. I have more luck with full permission objects and textures I have saved in content tabs though sometimes things still won't work if things are being difficult especially around note cards others have made. Lot of things merged together into these were looking box icons and I wasn't able to re-rezz them and that was over six months ago. Not sure now if I could re-rezz them now. I am horder yet some how my inventory went from 38k to 23k some how in last six months no clue how that happen either or what I lost

Does it make a difference on how often you rez things out or 'wear'? Would I be more likely to keep items if I made a point of rezzing them out every 3 to 6 months, I guess is what I'm asking?
I'm not a tech head and so I seek the collective wisdom of those who answer so well here in RA.

I can't think of any reason why that would make a difference, but who knows?
I think the problem reported by the original poster in this thread was a one-time event, like lightning hitting a server or something. I don't think anything would have protected you from that, except having duplicate copies of your objects on a different server. Apparently LL wasn't aware that anything had happened (or worse, knew about it and chose not to do or say anything about it). Now it is a question of whether the bad objects can be repaired or recovered. I am not hopeful. I wish I could at least get a response of some kind through support or the JIRA.

ok let me get this straight yesterday I started sorting stuff into boxes to organize my inventory of things I dont use often. So now I might not be able to rezz them in the future?
And having an alt I can have them store stuff in their inventory? Guess it would have to be transferable stuff right?

Yeah, this bit me too. It was well over a year ago, sometime during '06, probably late '06. Thankfully it was mostly freebie clothing I got back in the day, but I also lost some nice animations too. :/
