Has anyone ever noticed that typically on a Wednesday, if grid stability starts to falter (as it is now - looks like asset server probs to me), the problems extend into and throughout the weekend? Maybe I've been on here too long *sighs*.

Wednesday's were tradionally Grid Maintenance Days, where it would be shut down for an announced period and usually lasting longer. It would be a scheduled 3 hour outage for example, but it would be 5 or 6 hours before you could get back on. It made for a lot of fun threads as we all went crazy waiting for the grid to open up again. I'd guess that maybe maintenance is still being done, but it is being done in a manner that does not require as total shutdown.

/me confirms that what Brenda has said is likely ... and that is probably why the issues carry on into the weekend too. I dunno ... I personally don't notice a pattern, I am more noticing my PC rebooting if it has been running SL for ages. Time I hoovered it I guess :)

I think because of the Grid Maint Wednesday mess, the servers are now trained to take themselves down and to stay down until 6 hours have passed by. I mean.. you can train mice to do that, right?

LOL that last line just made me smile

~mark pokes you~

You're new here aren't you?

welcome to secondlife :-)

You'll also notice that the grid usually gets a little flaky the night before a planned "shutdown" ...most likely due to pre-emptive work being done by LL before the actual shutdown.

The flakiness sometimes continues for several days afterwards as they find bugs that don't show up until under full load.

typically the bugs get straightened out just in time for the following weeks "planned shutdown"

Rez/Transfer Alert: Asset System Sluggishness
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 at 12:01 PM PST by: Teeple Linden
Operations is investigating a slowdown in the asset system. This is affecting multiple regions, and can manifest in a number of ways, including:

Inability to save notecards
Inability to compile scripts
Refusal of rezzed objects to return to inventory.
We’re still scoping this issue, and will keep you updated as we move past diagnosis and toward resolution. Until the scope of this issue is clear, we strongly suggest you avoid rezzing or transferring valuable (no-copy) assets or L$.

Yeah, I've been on here too long!
