Create something - only to see creator tag become someone else's?

I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if it was 'curable'... A friend of mine with an excellent building reputation and someone who contracts out professionally, recently made some items by hand. As of a day or two ago, some of the prims in a linked item set defaulted to another creator's tags. Cadroe Murphy's, to be exact! Now, we all know and love ShapeGen that Cadroe made, and this isn't too uncommon to see Cadroe's tags... but SHAPEGEN WAS NOT USED!!! I asked the obvious: might it have been a mistake, and there was a Cadroe-created prim hanging around that you used accidentally? Nope. Wasn't that. This is the Oddest permission error I'd ever seen. If I can find Cadroe I'm going to show him, but it's clearly not his fault... has anyone else seen anything like this, ever? And if so, any idea what can be done about it? My friend has to check builds in 60 regions to see if any more of this has gone on...

There must be a Cadroe prim in there somewhere. I know when I've used the ring maker that the prims come up with his name as creator. That being said, it may be that the bug that shifts creator name is back. I have some lovely Linden made Plumerias that list me as the creator - I must have been rezzing them during the last time the bug was floating around. I get people all the time asking if I sell those Plumerias now.

Could you tell me more about this bug? This is a very exacting person who knows exactly what shapegen is, and hasn't touched it in months. When they say shapegen wasn't involved, or a Cadroe prim to start with, I believe.

My stuff would have had that creator name switch back in Jan-Feb, but it appears to still be showing up: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-280

Is it established that the prims with Cadroe as creator are certainly the exact same prim instances that the builder created? (I suppose the Creation Date shown in Inspect may be a clue about that.) I'm thinking perhaps the builder's prims transfered to a next owner with modify perms, who then cloned them using a Cadroe prim as raw material for rezzing. Or perhaps someone had permission to modify the builder's stuff, and would thereby be able to do similar cloning. (Of course, if the builder is still the owner of the prims, then this is totally irrelevant.)

Interesting, interesting... thank you. Yes these prims were never transferred. Very odd.

From: Isablan Neva I have some lovely Linden made Plumerias that list me as the creator - I must have been rezzing them during the last time the bug was floating around. I get people all the time asking if I sell those Plumerias now. If you rez the plants from the library, they have a Linden name on them as the creator (whichever Linden rezzed them, named them and then put them into the library); if you rez them using the build option they'll show with your name as the creator. It's not a bug in that particular case.

Is this at all related to the "Creator: (unknown)" issue? I've got stuff in my inventory that seems to have forgotten who made it. Seems to be more obvious in older items I own.

Here's a devious idea about how it might have happened...
1. Evil person gets a prim mirror and one of Cadroe's awesome tools 2. Evil person takes the full-perm prim out of Cadroe's awesome tool, removes the script, adds the prim mirror full-permed prim's script instead and puts it inside the prim mirror. 3. Evil person copies original content creator's modifiable item with prim mirror 4. Evil person remains anonymous with plausible deniability and takes a bite out of original content creator's sales and Cadroe gets blamed instead.
It's a thought. It's how I'd do it if I were evil.
