My firepits and other fire and light particle objects work when first rezzed. Then later or when I relog, all I get is dry logs with no effect. This has been happening for months now. Know issue? Workaround? It's no fun sitting around a pile of dry logs.

This forum is no place for humor. Or at least that's what I've been told a million times when I try to be funny.

Particle problem has been going on since 1.17
Maybe LL will fix it now that they're focusing on "stabilising" the grid. *holds breath* ~Jessy _____________________

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do. |

Strife, maybe this could be one of the unsung things you do through open source to make SL a better place for us all...If you do, I will name my next crab after you.

My firepits and other fire and light particle objects work when first rezzed. Then later or when I relog, all I get is dry logs with no effect. This has been happening for months now. Know issue? Workaround? It's no fun sitting around a pile of dry logs. Me too. The problem is that many of the older ones use llMakeFire and llMakeSmoke (or something like that) in their scripts, which are not part of the current particle system. I think it was 1.15 that killed these functions... or whichever one was called "render pipeline improvements" (which for me was "toast Ava's graphics card" . Since then, the current particle system is used to simulate the older functions... in a pitifully lame and ineffective way.I had a firepit from Creative Fantasy out on my little home beach, and it had a roaring fire and massive billows of smoke (so much that I worried my neighbors would complain). Now the fire looks like a cartoon and I'm lucky to get three puffs of smoke a minute. I am so running over to JIRA to vote. ETA: Turns out it was 1.14 that both replaced llMakeFire and llMakeSmoke with particle system substitutes AND introduced the inadequate particle output problem (which affects more than just fire and smoke). So in addition to the fake MakeSmoke/MakeFire not being a perfect replacement, the replacement itself got borked in the same update. No wonder our campfires fizzled! Mac folks such as myself weep anytime Nicholaz's name is mentioned. I second this. ![]() |

I get that. I sale a couple of fire pits with particle smoke, slightly different styles, sitting side by side. Sometimes one will have smoke, and the other does not. They both use the same script and texture for the smoke. I can rez a new one and it works. Logging off and clearing cache helps. At other times they are both puffing smoke like a freight train.
