Hi guys

I run a number of apartments and condos, and many of my residents want to have either Media or Radios they can tune in to listen to their preference - not an unreasonable request I guess.

I am struggling to make this happen however. It seems that radio is connected to the area of the sim rather than 3 dimensionally. Therefore an apartment block is affected in its entirety. Is there a work around for this at all?

I've also never had much success with TVs - personally I've never quite got why somebody would want to go in world to watch TV but that's me, but the few times I've tried getting a media stream going I've failed - and I certainly don't have a budget for a high cost solution

Any and all advice gratefully received!

Both radio and Video media are connected to the parcel it is over, and each parcel can have one of each set via the about land->media tab. Those are GLOBAL settings that affect the entire parcel, and anyone who starts the radio or movie while over that land will see or hear what everyone else does. There are several workarounds though...
You can obtain TVs and radios that send the commands and streams to each individuals viewer locally, I think by using it's unique ID, or maybe the AV's ID, not sure. They're made for multiple users, so people can be watching different movies on the same video screen, or each on their own screen, and hear different radio stations as well. I know @Home sell them, but there's others too.
Can also go the cheap route and just put each residence on it's own parcel. No special group TV's needed then, any old one will work.

I found a Transistor Radio in my Dad's old things a few months back.A really small one with a dial for radio tuning and a note stuck on back that said "Radio Caroline".

Actually I am playing with my Blackberry - much fun!!

Thanks Dana

I can't divide the land up because they are apartments. Do you have links to these radios at all?

A fairly recent thread, , may be of some interest; it includes a link to another thread that has a free script that may do what's needed. (I haven't tried that particular script, but the underlying functionality is pretty simple.)

One observation: it's really only parcel "media" that can be targeted with different streams to different viewers on the same parcel; there's no such ability to target parcel audio. In theory, parcel media can stream audio types, but there's a glitch in that right now: it works for some viewers, some of the time, kinda. (My bet is that this will get fixed in an upcoming Snowglobe release as part of the media plugin API work; from what I see on the dev mailing list, it seems like they're bumping straight into the problem.)

As for links to products, Dana mentioned @Home and in the thread cited above, I mentioned Silver Stream, but I think both of these sources are pretty pricey, so in addition to that free script I'm sure there must be other products. It's not rocket science, so at this point, media players that can't be configured to do this thing are really kinda lame.

That's what DJs or people like Dead Maus use to make sound that verberates and creates venialisms of chazz.

Oh, you mean what the "ancients" created to listen to their Master's Voice. Yes, and the discs of the Master were numbered 45, 33(and a third) and that elusive and rather depressing 78 that my uncle told me his soldiers boiled down to quaff and get blotto.
