Hello Everyone :)

Can anyone suggest the best way to back up your avatar. What I mean is, not just the clothes and any other things they are wearing but also the body shape, skin and every change that has been made to them such as eye shape, nose shape and so on.

Yesterday, I messed it up really bad - transformed myself into an 8ft tall robot which was fun while it lasted but then spent about 2 hrs getting the avatar back to exactly how I like it. Would it be as simple as making copies of certain folders on my computer and then copying them back if the same thing happens again.

Thanks :)

As long as you can make copies of your avatar's shape and anything it's wearing (in other words, as long as all of those things in your inventory don't have 'no copy' after them) then you can make a backup folder in your inventory. Just put in there your original, untouched items (shape, etc) and then when you want to mess around and try something new, take a copy of your shape (right-click it in inventory > copy) and paste it into a new folder. Wear that copy, and mess around to your heart's content, and when you want to go back to your original shape, wear the one in your backup folder.

Edited to add: if the shape is no-copy, you can still make a backup by noting down all the slider settings and making a *new* shape with those slider settings.

or you can go into appearance mode and click "make outfit". Check all the little boxes, give the outfit a name and click "save". There will now be a folder in your inventory (I think it goes in the clothing folder) with copies of everything you are wearing. If you are wearing any no copy items they will be moved to the new folder.

There is a tool called Second Inventory for backing up stuff on your own computer, but it only works with full perm items and I am not sure if it just saves objects or whether you can save shapes and things as well.

To save your shape, the one you modded a bit after being on Orientation Island -

Right click your avatar and choose 'appearance.'

Now hit 'save as' in there, and choose a title that you will remember. I recommend your avatar name, the word shape, and the date. Hit save, and close the appearance window.

Now if you type WORN in inventory you should see that you are wearing that shape. Until you delete it it will stay in there. Now you can try on other shapes and just click and wear that one again to go back to your normal self.

As for other things, what I do is I make a folder. Open inventory. Choose new folder. Now right click and rename the folder something like, "avatar name everyday."

I have a Clarissa Everyday folder. In there I dragged the skins folder, eyes, shape, and current favorite walk or AO. You can put more in there if you want.

The easy way to drag things to a new folder is to open two inventory windows. Open inventory, choose 'new window' from its menu, and drag things you are wearing from one window to the folder in the new window. (Type names or type WORN and drag anything WORN in the new folder called "your name everyday.";)

Then in a pinch you can go back to your normal avatar.
