age verification and questions about it

I am an adult 29 years old i have a few questions on the new changes it says we need to verify our ages and i did that using my State ID because i am not a credit card holder and i dont plan on being one now is that gonna be all for me or do they expect me to have more then that? Because my friends are all telling me it isnt gonna be good enough and im panicing here because i do not have the cards that they want.

There are several HUGE threads about this in the "Further Conversations" forum.

Linden Lab is still finalizing their plans, but as of today:

1. You don't have to age verify yet.

2. When the new policy goes into effect, probably sometime in June or July, you will have to:
a) download and use an updated viewer with additional restrictions on what content you can access and what places you can visit.
b) be "account verified" in order to search for or visit "adult content". According to Linden Lab, "account verification" means EITHER using their third party age verification contractor, OR having "payment info on file", i.e., a credit card or a PayPal account.

SOmeone will probably come along and correct me if I am wrong BUT....

From what I have read so far either going through the verification process you did OR having payment info on file will be enough. You will NOT have to do both.

That appears to be the case as of now. Either/or.

I did both, I just figured it's one less job I'll have to do later.

OR neither. Age verification will only be required if you want to go to the adult continent or adult sims, and/or have adult results returned to you in search. Other than for those things, there will be no age verification required.

But aren't we all here for the sexxies? I mean, that IS what SL is all about - or so I'm told.

ty for the correction you are right. If a person doesnt want to access adult content there is NO obligation to verify at all.

Some of us that are older accounts are verified by default since at one time there was no such thing as a free account. So being verified certainly does not mean you are in SL for the sexors.

No need to panic. It's possible to test whether one's "Adult verification" is working by trying to TP to the Adult InfoHub at http://slurl.com/secondlife/arapaima/128/128; if you can get in to Arapaima, you're all set. Also, if you want to see how all this Adult content stuff will work with Search filters, etc., you can download 1.23 Release Candidate 1 from the "Test Viewers" section of http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php.

If there happens to be a problem with your verification, it's still not time to panic. It happens, and then a support ticket needs to be filed. Luckily, this is still early days, so if there's a problem there's more than a month still to get it fixed.

I'll have to check this out. The last time I was verifying the Verification, my age-verified alts sometimes could get into flagged parcels and sometimes could not - no rhyme or reason to it that I could tell either.

Good news, Ursula's land mass is growing, at first there were 250 odd sims now there are 330 or so, maybe they realized something.

I can get to Arapaima in with age verification from Australia too.

I'm wondering, does the restrictions of that sim work with older viewers, or just this one RC? I can TP there no problem, but the 1.22 I'm using doesn't say anything about that sim being "adult" or such.. only that it's a mature region.

Yes that is what Blondin Linden said, also Blue Linden, if memory serves.

Can either:

1. Register with Aristotle (log into this website - secondlife.com - and click age verify on left column and proceed)

or

2. Register on www.secondlife.com with paypal (they only take bank-verified paypal though) or with a credit card. I think you also must use it at least once in SL. (But some things cost only 50 real cents)

or

3. Register with SL Exchange website which Linden Labs now owns, and then also use it to buy things on SL Exchange.

With the new viewer, if you have done one of those, it supposedly will allow that avatar onto adult land. You must do one of these for EACH avatar you wish to go to adult land. One registration does not, as yet, count for all your alts and so on.

Of course if you wish to do all three things you may, but it is not strictly necessary for the purpose of going to 'adult land' in Second Life.
