How can a relative/guest join SL to have a look around without having to use our email as registration?

Anyhow, they are getting denied access unless they sign up through our email?

As long as the Email account is legitimate and accessible for confirmation; it doesn't matter where they sign up. (^_^)

Did they get an activation link from LL in the email and did they go to it?

Perhaps LL thought you were trying to register an alt . . .

Anyhow, my rl bf has one account and I have one account. We don't have any alts and he is never even on SL. He pretty much hates SL and watches sports when he's supposed to be learning about SL. He has attention deficit disorder when it comes to SL.

No.
If you signed the account up on the regular LL pages, you have to receive that email in order to know what password to use with the account. If they never got the email, how do they know what password to use.

Or am I mis-reading the initial stuff and you received some sort of error trying to signup/create the account in the first place?

Well, if learning SL is some sort of mandated requirement, that might be part of the problem right there.

I don't know exactly, I'll have to ask, but I have to log off now and go entertain them.

If you mean unverified anomyous ones exceeding the allowed maximum per person, yes we (SL) have a problem with alts. Go to any botfest traffic sim and tell us there's no problem with the system being loaded 24/7 by mindless stationary zombies to cheat the search system.

I think you're right, my first attempt to join SL I didn't get the email and had to start over.

Though I do know from experience that if the email never comes, you can call LL and provide them with the same info you used to create the account and get the password reset. This is the route you need to take if you really want that avi name because even if the account never logs in, once it is registered, the name is not reusable.

You don't even need to call them. I emailed them and they sorted it out . . .

A friend of mine has had the same type of problem, but found that by re-downloading S.L.
at the third stage of registration this worked..But if you skip this step it will not let you on....

usually when there are problems with emails not being delivered,

it's because the email address has been misspelled

or an over-eager spam filter has picked up the mail.

So check in the spam folder, then try registering again.

I suppose that is true if you don't mind waiting days/weeks/whatever to actually log in.
