heyas;
a few weeks/months back, i got one of those start up surveys asking me something about 'mainland communities.' to which my answer was, 'what's a mainland community?'
maybe im dense, or sheltered, but the only communities i know have their own island(s). mainland, in my experience, is a conglomeration of a buncha people who don't even know each other.
so...
what's a mainland community?? where are they??

I'd hazard a guess that Bay City is a late attempt at this and that 'old' sims that have residents who have lived there for more than year could be thought of as a community, I would say that 'Jessie' on the mainland could be loosely termed community.

There are large landholders that build their communities on mainland instead of islands. I have one, Avion Raymaker has one, Lindal Kidd has one, Ravenglass Rentals from Prok is one, and there are a number of others. Our communities are nice and are a boon for any sim we are in, because we are good neighbors. Mainland isn't a complete piehole.

Ya, Bay City to an extent, Nova Albion, The Lost Forest of Kharunvel around Rodeo, Lusk, Shermerville, etc.

Back in the days before I fled the mainland I was part of a community that spread accross 3 regions. I lived in 'Ear' can't remember the other regions. We constituted ourselves a community as we were all in a group. We all donated small amounts of land to the group to create public spaces for us to use and even created a little tavern type place to socialise in. There were 8 main land owners and if anyone of us had a problem with the other then we tried to work it out as a group. We also tried to keep our little community and it's borders safe from griefers and the encroching ad farms. I think a mainland community can be best described as a group of residents working together to protect their collective lands from blight. In our case friendships formed and it also provided a haven for socialising. Some of us even went into business together for a year or so.

We're sure making an attempt at it with the Izumi Gakugen parks and shops in Ferguson. We're squeezing the adplots out one by one. (^_^)y

I have a 2048 cabin in Larsson. It is part of a group of snow theme sims in old mainland. I absolutely love it there. The surrounding sims and I don't believe it was due to a group led effort, just plain ole common respect for the beauty of the sims that everyone has stayed within the theme. There many wonderful places in mainland. Yesterday though, while shopping I saw all those ad-farms just absolutely spoiling the sim's beauty. I felt pained by this and sorry for the well kept homes that was nearby. I equate the ad farm as having a drug house in your neighborhood.

From: Marianne McCann Ya, Bay City to an extent, Nova Albion, The Lost Forest of Kharunvel around Rodeo, Lusk, Shermerville, etc. The Forest of Kahruvel is a bit of an anomaly. Other than my home in the Cowell Lighthouse, and a couple small shops that operate in the village, the area still has no official residents after almost five years. That being said, there are quite a few folks (and critters) that call the area "home." The group that looks after the forest, the Phyneas Jack Memorial Trust, is only just now beginning to (finally!) get itself organized enough to look at opening up more of the forest and nearby seaside village to more permanent residents. Many of the discoveries made in the area had put that on hold for quite a while.
