I posted this question in my blog and wanted to put it out here too There are so many huge operations and conglomerates that have so much to offer in virtual products. Do smaller 'mom and pop' shops still have value in the virtual world? What do you think? Thanks in advance!

YES!!! I would MUCH rather shop in smaller shops with items one doesn't see everywhere else.
Also much prefer navigating a smaller store. (Insert plug for Rha! Designs here as an example)

Anjo! Bite your tongue! Mom and pop stores are wonderful, in fact finding them is one of the reasons why I haunt the forums. Just for that, I'm going to come and visit your store. SO THERE!
I remember my first platform heels, Anjo's that my first avatar got at ... I think Gnubie? ... very fondly. .

I think there is a place for smaller shops selling good quality goods and providing great customer service. I too am a little disturbed by the mega malls, huge impersonal private islands solely dedicated to selling you stuff, taking your money and offering nothing else in return. We will always need mom and pop stores ..
Who else are some of those giant operations going to rip their stuff from?

thanks czari
I too like the smaller "mom and pop shops" they are much more fun to look around in
especially the ones that feel like a mom and pop shop
I have been thinking about rezzing the shop from arcadia (the one that goes with the slum city stuff) but.. it will not really fit in with my place... but I sooooo love what she did

Oh yeah never call it a "mom and pop" store unless you are in some 50's retro sim
call it a Specialty Shop, a Niche store, or a Boutique -- More Trendy.

We have some what I suppose you would call "mom and pop" stores as part of our estate. We're glad to have them and I believe their sales are reasonable as it's part of a particular niche (Victorian) market. Inc

There isn't a single business in SL (not counting corporate operations, but those that started in SL) that didn't start out tiny with just a few products to offer. Most businesses in SL are still the work of just one or a small handful of people, so are there any places that aren't mom and pop stores? There's room for every kind of store, large and small. I think it's important to remember that just because a brand might become well known, or a store might have to grow larger and larger to house growing product lines, most of us here are still little guys.
