What is up with all the 503 Service Unavailable notices in the forums? The forums are practically inaccessible to me at all at this point. (and yes, I've tried LL's suggestion of "refreshing" the page).

These are a new thing, and I'm wondering if anyone knows why we are suddenly getting them so frequently in the forums? I have not had this problem previously. It seems like it has been about a week now - does that seem right to the rest of you?

Anyone know what's up?

Princess Ivory

HA HA - I can't even submit this message - I'm get a 503 page!!!!!!
I'll keep trying. How ironic.

i think the statement they`re trying to make as it`s ongoing since friday is:

All Your Money Are Belong To Us Only

hence, no one working to fix it as you can read by the couple of "fixed" blogs posted while it kept failing

F5 F5 F5 F5 *loads* *fixed*

"Just press F5 people as it works" yea, hitting F5 works, servers... uhh... 503...

OK, here's my take on it. This is PURELY speculation and rumor, so repeat it only if you want to look silly when I'm wrong!

Last night, as I was trying to log into SL and it wasn't connecting, I kept getting a google search page popping up, which was very interesting. The search page said google, made from a bunch of building blocks. You know how google pretties up its pages for special occasions? Kinda like that. Now, if I pulled up a regular google search page, it was the usual search page - no building blocks.

The new SL search is based on the google search engine.

So, I started wondering if...maybe...SL is being transferred to google's servers. DNS changes sometimes cause this kind of thing until they're all been transferred over.

Just my thoughts, and remember you've been warned!

I have a feeling... the refresh timer is set to low. Maybe they have a hole in the harmonic balancer or could be the flux capacitor is full.

Nothing a realignment of the Heisenberg dampeners can't fix.

But the Google search is for in-world Second Life.

The forum servers should be unaffected by the change. They are on the website. I would think they are on a separate server or servers.

Just had a moment of irony trying to click on this thread and getting "503 Service Unavailable".

No, yesterday the google homepage had the "Google logo" made of Lego blocks to celebrate 50 years of Lego.

Now, you may however have hit on something though...

Error 503 is normally related to a webserver being overloaded. It gives the 503 error to "throttle" itself to prvent itself from spiralling into a crash.

Now the new in-world search uses the Google search appliance, everything inworld that needs indexing has to have a web page for the engine to index.

This means that those webpsages will be getting hit by the search appliance indexing them. Also, these pages are being indexed by the rest of the web now so more hots on thge web server frm casual "out of world" surfers and finally, the new search pages in world are served by a web server too...

My take is that LL did not allow for this extra traffic when calculating scalability and redundancy of the web server cluster.
