Everything depends on the permissions that the original creator imposed when they made the object originally. If they allowe subsequent owners to transfer the object then you can just give it to someone by dragging it from your inventory and dropping it on their avatar.

Be warned though, there are some things that can mess up your avatar, so a lot of people will not accept gifts from strangers.

There is no particular 'need' to get rid of something and you can always delete it anyway.

If it is transferable you can sell it.

/me blinks at the idea of someone wandering around SL trying to hawk a second hand bench......

What good is the bench?

Assuming SL was working properly, and that the benches I saw were the same ones the thread mentions, the bench doesn't have a script in it and costs 50 lindens.

There were avatars sitting in benches and others sitting on a fountain.

I've never been to Welfare Island. I don't get what's going with selling benches .

Minkess - I suggest you IM Uncle Sands who owns Welfare Island, and explain your purchase by mistake. Hopefully he'll understand the accident if you're new - presume you clicked buy instead of sit when trying to camp on one of the poseball benches.
Otherwise you've at least got a start for when you own your own garden. :)

Is it really only 50 lindens? ummm Minkess...after you shop around awhile, you'll discover that 50 lindens is really very very cheap. Did you know it's only about 18 cents in US Dollars? Trash it. Or give it away as was described earlier.

Minkess, drop it on the ground somewhere, right click, edit, go to the first tab on that window (if it's just a small window, go to the right side and "expand". click the radio button to sell, set the price for L$50 and no doubt Marin will be along to buy it for 18 cents. ;)

I think it's one of those cases where if you could hear the tone and know the intention, you would realize she was just making a joke.

I think it's sweet that the OP is offering to give the bench away. If I gave away every mistake purchase I ever made I'd have a much less cluttered inventory.

It sort of sounds to me as if you are asking how to delete it from your inventory. (Just right click on it in your inventory list and choose "delete". Then right click on the trash folder in your inventory and choose "empty trash".)

It's a plain looking bench with no script.

If you are so lacking in funds that you are on welfare island looking for handouts, why in the world would you want to pay 50 lindens for a bench with no script in it?

She bought it by accident. I think she was just trying to sit down because she was tired.

Why would anyone have a plain bench set out for sale?

Just an error?

======

I click the wrong button and bought a 1300 linden item by mistake, non-transferable of course.

Mercifully it was a good item instead of a dog, and as it turned out, was the one I would have bought anyway. I could have stopped once I bought that one by mistake and saved myself hours more shopping.
