Being Tracked?

Can someone who is not on your friend's list be able to track your whereabouts in SL? Can they teleport to your destination? It appears that an avatar is following me. I was suspicious the last few days, but I have not approached them because I didn't think anyone could track your movement while inworld without being on your friend's list.

If this can be done, can someone tell me how I can stop it from happening? They're not bothering me, just appearing a few minutes after I enter a sim and lurking. They're a little more than a month old, and there is nothing in their profile except a couple groups.

Anybody can track if you're online or not even if not on your friend list.

Nobody can know where you teleport, but if you only walk it's fairly easy to follow you.

if i could have 1$ each time someone gets in a paranoid phase...

After my post, I did look at a few items for sale on XStreet and there are ways to track avatars across sims, even through teleport. I'm not sure how good they work, or how they work, but a couple I looked at two parties needed to wear HUDs and another one claimed all you needed to do is click on an avatar name and you can follow that avatar indefinitely even without their permission.

And this is happening on Emerald & the default SL viewer.

Unless something has changed significantly, anyone can track you anywhere on SL by using a modified Viewer.

Sl is not designed for privacy.

the silent black helicopters are everywhere........

and just because you are paranoid doesn't mean someone's not out to get you.

Just because you aren't paranoid doesn't mean you shouldn't be.

uh yes you can be tracked and yes you can be stalked in SL, period.
Its freaky to think about it when it happens to you.

alts smell when used like this too

anyway the only way to deal with it is heck its on them not you

not your issue, theirs

go about being happy with whatever you do

while they are miserable thinking they are playing a game when they were children hiding under a bed watching you

it has and can ruin so many things for ppl

I'm not a hundred percent sure on this specific issue BUT there is a lot of scammers selling "must have tools" that doesn't work on xstreet.

What’s sad are hypocrites who come to the forums and make themselves out as victims when they too carry a stench and are just as guilty of creating alts for stalking and tracking people ... must be getting pretty crowded under that bed

I have personally seen that this works. Well, at least it did a year ago; haven't tried it lately.

When I was looking around on the XStreet website last night, I was surprised at finding listings for items that are being sold as griefer tools. I also saw some listings for items with disclaimers stating not to misuse said items.

I can't figure out why anyone would want to follow me. I'm pretty much PG vanilla all the time, don't talk dirty and wear non-revealing clothing. If you talk to me inworld, the conversation will always end up about my kid, my dogs, Alaska, guns or moose. Not exactly stalker fodder.

I did visit Zindra recently. I wore a camouflage box that completely covered my avatar as a goof and walked around aimlessly in a couple of regions. I did notice that an avatar was teleporting from region to region about the same time I did, but I didn't pay attention to the name. Maybe they have a box fetish.

The teleport tracking thing was supposed to have been fixed in an update recently.

You can track Avs who are in the same sim that your in with the Greenlife Emerald viewer.

I must say it can be a useful tool I tend to use it often well not to stalk anyone but it makes it easy to tp to where there are many other AVs when your looking to meet/make new friends. Or just to see where everyone hangs out in that sim which is a great way to find new hang outs.

Also I like the way its easy to check out other AVs profiles that are in your Sim without needing to be near them. I like reading profiles it is my way of checking out somone to see if I would like to meet them or even be friends if they have the same interest as I do.

Maybe some of you might thing I am strange but I just wanted to share that these tools are not always used for the purpose of stalking someone. I don't get why anyone would want to do that to anyone sounds pretty boring to me.

Don't worry. That has been fixed.

It was the case with an early version of Second Inventory that if someone responded to your IM then their location on the grid was revealed. However, that was fixed and now the same function only reveals a location if the person is within the same sim, which all scanners do anyway.
