*sighes ok I had a look in the forum search and can't find anything about 'orbiting' so I thought I'd ask the forum font of all knowledge......I visit this particular place several times a week to chat to friends. It's a public hang-out and other avis are always milling about. However without warning one of us gets 'orbited'...this is obviously just someone having a laugh. But now its getting a tad boring, especially as it happens without warning, when I or mates are minding our own business. Question - how can I tell who is doing this and what sort of defensive action should I take without being deemed a griefer myself? Are all orbiters/booters secretly used? I know there are huds you can buy, but surely we shouldn't have to wear one of these all the time in case we get randomly booted?

The menu option, Help/Bumps Pushes and Hits, should show you if you have been orbited and by what/whom.
I think the simplest defence is usually to sit on something. _____________________

Well, once you have the info showing who is doing the orbitting, file an AR against that individual. Harrassment is not fun, nor should it be tolerated. Just remember, yes, as Deira said, sitting is the simplest defense.
Good luck! |

There are HUDs that are so useful that they're worth wearing all the time. The Mystitool HUD is the one that I use, and one which gets mentioned frequently.
There's even a free version, although I don't know whether the free version includes the feature that tells you which object pushed you. |

thanks guys, I'll bear that in mind and if it happens again I shall look where suggested. I was aware that sitting usually negates others from pushing you around, however I have been orbitted while seated.

I'm afraid some orbiting scripts are a bit nastier and they can "unseat" you - have you searched on XStreet? You can usually find a selection of protection devices there - a lot of people use the Mystitool HUD, as Kidd mentioned. _____________________

Haven't seen any orbiters that work when someone is seated, unless the person doing the orbiting owns the land. It would be a serious bug to be able to force unsit someone without being owner of the land or the object being sat upon. Makes me wonder if the owner of the "public place" (or one of his lackeys) isn't playing some kind of trick for lulz.

IT was not mentioned that you must sit on an object, not the ground. If you sit on the ground some orbiting methods will still work.

There's one that involves dropping a spinning prim with a certain shape on the seated avatar that allegedly still works.

I thought that orbiters stopped working once Havoc 4 was deployed. Am I wrong?

I thought that orbiters stopped working once Havoc 4 was deployed. Am I wrong? What you know as an orbiter no longer works. Rather, the term has changed, to mean any object that throws you up in the air. _____________________

sit on something. Don't buy protections they are made by the same suckers who make the weapons they claim to defend from.
