You can try putting in a support ticket. Do you own any adjacent parcels?

Yes - check the support knowledgbase for the Abandoned Land Faq' Things change.

At this time however, the guts of this are:

From: someone
What happens to land once it's abandoned?

Ownership of abandoned land reverts immediately to Governor Linden and changes its name to "Abandoned Land", at which point it enters a queue for processing. The Land Team processes abandoned land by cleaning it of objects and generally making it ready to sell. They then decide whether it should be sold at auction, made into protected land, or sold to a neighboring Resident.
Can I trigger an auction for this land that looks abandoned?

If you find that a land parcel's owner no longer appears in search, there is a possibility that the land may indeed be abandoned. If the land is owned by Governor Linden, the odds are greater. Residents with a Basic account should go to Help Island and talk to someone there. If you have a Premium account, you can submit a support ticket detailing the location of the land including the region name and grid location, and the concern that prompted you to investigate the plot's status. In many cases, the land may go to auction if no owner can be determined.
Will Linden Lab sell abandoned land directly to me if my claim on it is good enough?

This can sometimes be tricky, but there are cases in which a Resident may have a pretty good claim to abandoned land. These can include but aren't necessarily limited to:

* The land I own borders three sides of an abandoned parcel.
* The land I own completely encircles an abandoned parcel.
* There is a parcel of abandoned land directly between my land and another Resident's land, but the other Resident has stated that he has no interest in owning the abandoned parcel.
* The land must always be less than 512 square meters.

Remember that these parameters are only guidelines; each parcel is considered on a case-by-case basis, and the Land Team may not sell the land to you even if you meet some of the claims. In many cases, there's no single Resident who has a very strong claim to a particular abandoned parcel, in which case it goes to auction.

Basically if it is 512 sq m or over you can submit a request that will expedite it to the auction queue. This usually takes 7-10 days once the land has been looked at. This is also a good way to get junky old builds or ban lines removed from abandoned parcels.

If it is less than 512 sq m and you do NOT have adjoining land then again the best you can hope for is to get junk and banlines removed. It *may* still be offered to you depending on how much other land you own in the region and the status of abutting owners.

If it less than 512 sq m and you DO own adjoining land you have a good chance of being offered the land for direct purchase. Where another resident has a better, or equal, claim you may be asked to contact them and determine if they want the land or not. If they relinquish their claim then you may be offered the land.

Good luck!

I just did this (filed a support ticket) in the case of a 16 m^2 microplot mostly surrounded by my land that I noticed was suddenly owned by Governor Linden. Worked just fine.

In my case, about 24 hours later the ticket was marked "Work In Progress" or some similar term, and then it took 4 or 5 days to actually happen, so you should expect at LEAST that sort of delay if you pursue it.
