Today is my 1st Rez Day in SL (I am not in world at this time and won't be able to log in until this evening), but my how things have changed in my 1st year. I'd say about 75% of my saved landmarks are no longer valid, my inventory is large (I know some people have much larger inventories than mine), I have dabbled in SL real estate and have realized that SL real estate is completely different than RL real estate and even myself as a SL resident, I have changed several times in how I view the grid.
For the first few months after discovering SL I would spend all of my free time in world to the point where some of my RL responsibilities and RL relationships suffered. But (for myself) I know I need to find balance between RL and SL and lately I have been getting back to addressing some RL chores (like cleaning and fixing up my RL house) that I neglected when I first joined SL. Don't get me wrong, I still think SL is a pretty cool platform and I will continue to log back in to SL, but it's just harder to justify spending all the time in SL that I used to spend. It's funny how a year in world changes you. I can only imagine the changes the older SL residents have seen.
Enjoy ...

Happy Rez Day, Jessica! A lot of us must have joined this time last year - my first rez day anniversary was May 1, my Partner's May 17 - several other people on the forum have celebrated their first rez days this month. It is fun to look back and then see how much we've learned/experienced, etc. in SL. Unfortunately, even after a year I'm still neglecting some RL chores. *sighs*

Happy Rez Day Guilty of the same thing- re the neglect of RL for the longest time. Still do to some extent. Your involvement finds a level, it depends on what you are enjoying at the time. If the building bug bites you you will find marathon nights again.. then you may let that drift awhile - it all ebbs and flows.

Happy Rez Day! This account is an alt turned main, but my original main celebrated his first rez day this month as well. I guess May is popular!
I agree with you about the change. I still love being in world but for awhile it did consume me. Cleaning my RL house was not a priority when I needed to fix up my SL house, in exchange my house was dirty so it gave me an excuse to not have people over so I could spend more time in world. I got more into the business side of SL and it then became a hobby and not a social obsession...I made this account and started fresh. I still spend about 2 or 3 hours in world every day but I've gotten my RL back and my home is clean again, friends and RL social relations are good.
Now if I could just pull myself away from these forums while I'm at work...

I never had a problem with being in world when I had RL things to do, I always kept that perspective, but in the early days I did spend hours and hours of free time in SL exclusively. Now I've put in the place of all my other entertainment activities. I dont go in world every day, or for longer than an hour or so at a time usually. Even with the forums, as much as I do post, I'm never not doing something I should be doing instead. I leave it up and go in and out.
