Bad trend I noticed in freebies today

I have noticed since getting back on the grid now that when I click on freebie boxes just to look inside and see what they are, and check the permissions of them often it actually gives me the item before I have clicked on accept to buy it.These were not touch for freebie things but click to buy things that I didnt agree to buy.What bothers me is that it also did it with the $1 linden freebies too. That means they are taking money out of my account just for clicking on a box, and if they start doing that for regularly priced store items I will be mad . I deserve the right to say yes or no before buying something not just clicking on it . This appears to be a new trend since I have not noticed it before. I just clicked on the box to look at what it was inside . I dont like this new trend at all or is it a glitch?

Nothing to my knowledge can force you to buy things. even if they set click to "Pay", you would still get a window confirming the purchase first. However for many freebies, they could have it set to give on click, that's common for free items. No lindens involved in that case.

The important thing is that the amount is what you expect. 0, 1 or 5L, whatever. You should be concerned if the yellow dropdown box appears.

There has definitely been some "click" weirdness going on. Last night a single left click of the mouse was doing a few different things to the objects I supposedly "touched". It seemed like it was being treated like a right click with a random selection from the pie menu being automatically chosen.
I was able to single left click something on my land and it would choose to Edit that object without the edit mode being activated first. Another instance of it I was asked several times if I really wanted to delete my locked object.
This was all quite intermittent but happened often enough to be noticable. What the OP is describing sounds a little like this - perhaps for them the Buy option was being automatically selected and the the default button "Buy" pressed? I know its a stretch but then how the heck does a single left click get you to Edit mode or Delete?

Well, objects typically are set to touch upon left click, but you can change that to sit, or buy, or open. Sounds like someone did that.

Objects owned by someone else can only get money from you if you pay them, which always involves some form of gray dialog box with blue buttons.

Objects owner by you can only take money from you if you grant them access in a yellow pop-down dialog box when you first attach or rez/reset the item.

Are you absolutely sure you were being debited for these objects? Auto-givers cant take your money without asking.

Better yet, why not post a SLURL where we can go and check this place out for ourselves?

You cannot set then to Edit or Delete upon touch though - and these were my objects too. If you were talking to the OP's situation - then that might explain the Buy dialog popping up but not the automatic purchase after that - that cannot be normally automated. It still sounds like weirdness to me.

The OP says she was given the items *before* she accepted the purchase. She seems quite clear on that. This does not sound like an object she gave debit permission to.

HI Elinah, check your transaction history, it could be that the hover text said it was L$1, but that the box is actually set to sell for L$0

I hate to quote myself but I feel this is necessary. There is no *normal* way this can happen regardless of objects being set to sell on touch, items being sold for L$0 with L$1 hover text, Debit Permissions being granted (I mean she would have to have granted that object permissions and then immediately of forgotten about the big yellow Grant Debit Permissions dialog box)
The only other explanations are that she is mistaken about getting the items before clicking on the Buy button from the Buy dialog box or she is lying.
I tend to beleive her as I have seen click-weirdness myself recently (read up for details).

To the OP I do not think this is a trend but a borkage of the system. One that I hope does not remain for long but with skirts not rezzing and objects disappearing from inventories and inworld there is no guarantee Sorry we dont have a better answer for you.

I checked my account and it definately on one occasion shows I paid $1 linden for a freebie that I know I didnt want. I did click on the box and was suprised to see it given to me.It happened also with the $0 linden ones too but its the one that took my Linden I feel concerned about it doing. I just wanted to warn everyone to look out for this because if it is happening with freebies what else can it happen with?

Hi Elinah,

I think if it is happening on freebies then it will be happening with all purchases as there is nothing special about freebies, however be aware it may not affect everyone - some bugs only seem to affect a very small group of people for some reason.

Does it happen all the time? and does it still happen now for you?

I hunt down & collect freebies a lot and this has never happened to me. But I haven't been in-world much over the past 2 days and like Gabriele said, SL has been weirder than normal recently.
