Hi there
It seems that I am unable to delete anything from my trash. When I log back in it all comes back. My inventory has over 15.000 items and I cannot get rid of them. Any suggestions? I am very reluctant to do any experiments with my inventory though - I have lost stuff a few times. Thanks.

Have you tried clearing cache and then relogging? Sounds to me like your local cache file might be corrupted.

I had this problem up until recently. Every time I tried to delete what was in my trash, it would reappear seconds later one by one. Actually I think that was the case ever since I joined SL. Just in the last few days, I have deleted items from my trash and they are gone instantly!! whoo hooo!!

By "deleting items from trash" do you mean, using the "empty trash" choice on the inventory menu, or actually purging by deleting something which is already in your trash folder?
"Empty trash" has always worked fine for me.
There were bugs which caused a crash occasionally when emptying trash, but I haven't seen that in quite a while. Of course, I'm still superstitious about it, and always empty trash before it gets much above 300 items, and close all folders in the inventory window before doing it.

Yes, I was talking about purging specific items. I don't want to empty all my trash but just to delete double items, freebies and other things I definitely won't need anymore.

Monalisa, I'm in no way an authority on the subject here but I'd say that 'deleting' items that are already in trash may very well go *to* trash! I'd strongly suggest moving things out of trash you don't want to delete, even to a temporary folder, then 'empty trash' properly.
