Is the Cost of Uploading Snapshots Currently Free

Well I checked my Transaction History, checked my balance, no change there, uploaded some Snapshots still no change to my balance both in world and on main account page.

Is the system borked or this now a free thing?

think it`s free cause of the crap quality u get

usually if i take a snapshot i want to keep, i donwload it, edit in photoshop for size and reupload it, wich costs L$10

Exactly what I am doing for editing in PS, tried again after relogging and still not charging, something is finally free.

I don't think uploading charge will show in Transactions. Isn't that for 'real money' movements?
Am I right in thinking you are uploading in-world and not being charged 10L$ a throw?

If so, 10L$ says LL are logging it and your balance will adjust later

I am uploading a snapshot taken in world to hardrive which I assumed was L$10.00, if you take a snapshot and upload to your inventory that is L$10.00 so perhaps uploading to HD is free.

Oh right..... yes, saving to harddrive is free, if you then upload it again it will cost you the L$ 10.

Yes, it's clearer if you think of the client (your PC) and the grid (servers):

You take an in-world snap on your client. You can save it to your HD which is only involving work for your PC hence no charge .... or ...

you can send it as a 'postcard' to another avie. This involves the server so costs 10L$

Also, sending your HD snap/homemade texture/photo of pet, girlfriend etc. means involving the server hence also 10L$

Now .. if only someone could explain group permissions to me like that ..

Heh heh, I'm not in-world atm and have memory retention of a goldfish .. does the dialogue call it 'upload' to hard drive? If so, it's a misnomer. It should be a 'save'. Anything else is a 'send' or 'upload'

Saving directly to your hard drive has always been free. That doesn't take up any server space on the Linden Lab Servers. Uploading textures FROM your hard drive to use inside SL, or taking snapshots that will reside in your inventory both cost L$10 per picture, as those DO use Linden Lab server space.

I never use the "Postcard" option, but as that doesn't save anything to your in-worls inventory, I would imagine that is free too.

But Ceera, you *are* uploading to the grid just like to your inventory. Postcards do get charged I'm certain .. but as I said, memory retention of a goldfish.

Postcards are supposed to be a form of advertising for SL, hence the no charge (you send it to someone's e-mail and say "look what a great time I'm having! Come join up!" Saving something to your hard drive (DOWNloading) is free. Saving something on the SL servers (UPloading) costs L$10/piece, whether it's a snapshot or a texture. Yes all uploads show up in transaction history. No, downloads don't.

They still charge for snapshots, but they are FREE if you are saving them to your harddrive and not uploading them into world

Uhmm.... so sending my friends those Ruth Postcards may not have been a good idea. It explains why I haven't heard back from any of them. Reminds me of the time I sent them postcards from Oakland......

There is a L$10 charge if a texture ends up in the asset server.

There is no charge if it doesn't.

Therefore, saving to disk, and sending postcards are both free. Saving to a texture in world, or uploading a texture are both charged L$10.
