Am posting this to help a tenant of mine out. It would appear that this has been happening for sometime and follows her around SL. Can anyone recognise the problem and/or know the solution? She has 2 unaccounted (not found as yet) prims on the island, but she has just built a huge river so that maybe the reason. This is an IM log including an email that was supposed to have been sent from me, though I never did, that she received from an in-world IM. The conversation that is listed we now know was shouted between me and my girlfriend and her friend inside of our house and was on the island when the tenant wasn't present but she may have been in SL elsewhere we are not sure at this time. [8:02] *Tenant*: ok Sy something weird is up around me when I rent. You online? [8:02] Sy Beck: yup [8:02] Sy Beck: what do you mean? [8:02] *Tenant*: I got an email from you "object is Sy is owned by *Tenant*" and it was snippits of recorded conversation something about you and the misty picture and something else [8:03] Sy Beck: huh? [8:03] *Tenant*: yeah I dont know what it is..its almost like I left some spy thing around to listen but I dont have anything like that [8:03] Sy Beck: can you copy and paste? [8:04] *Tenant*: The object 'Sy Beck' has sent you a message from Second Life: that one of me in the woods with the soft light = Sy Beck is owned by *Tenant* = http://slurl.com/secondlife/*******/110/216/126 The object 'Sy Beck' has sent you a message from Second Life: ok I'm off cyas you two = Sy Beck is owned by *Tenant* = http://slurl.com/secondlife/*******/110/216/126[8:04] *Tenant*: it did that from time to time at ** ***** and I never could figure out why. I dont get it. [8:04] Sy Beck: That's what i was saying to *Girlfriend and friend* when I logged last night [8:05] *Tenant*: any idea why I would get it [8:05] *Tenant*: remember where you were standing, maybe go there and look around? [8:05] *Tenant*: its creepy [8:05] Sy Beck: no but that is too weird [8:05] *Tenant*: were you near my home? [8:06] Sy Beck: no we were in our house [8:06] *Tenant*: ok [8:06] *Tenant*: I"ve NEVER been in that house [8:06] *Tenant*: even if I DID have something that listened in.. how would it have gotten there?? [8:06] *Tenant*: ok, just check around for creepy stuff there ok? [8:06] *Tenant*: I gotta go to work [8:06] Sy Beck: ok [8:07] Sy Beck: catch ya later Obviously she is upset about this and I'm concerned about the matter and for her. Does anyone recognise what it could be and how we tackle it? Any help would be gratefully accepted.

use the land oobjects count to see if anyone else has any prims there, u won`t have to see them to get rid of them and also see who owns them as they will show up in the list

scanning the land for items with other peoples names on it may not help, since the object seems to report being owned by the particular tennant (permissions bug?). and seems to be named after the speaker.... this leads me to believe it changes it's named to repeat whatever it hears to make it easier to read. enable beacons for scripted objects (ctrl + N), and check any of tennants objects that show as scripted around 110/216/126 if it weren't for the object name being the same as the name of the repeated conversation I'd say it was just a sloppy listener on a door, or something, that spits out anything it doesn't like after it's key word...

Thanks for the suggestion Void. Just tried and nothing but a big empty space of air. Nearest scripted object is some 90m below and it's mine (tintable window script of a pre-fab) and doesn't appear to be anything other than it should be. /me scratches head......again

From: Sy Beck [...] It would appear that this has been happening for sometime and follows her around SL. [...] It's important to know how, exactly, it "follows her around." Does this mean that she hears exclusively your conversations and/or exclusively from that one location, or does the origin of the forwarded conversation itself move? There are some extraordinarily strange bugs in llInstantMessage() right now that may be contributing to this, though there must be a scripted object involved somewhere. What I'm not sure about, though, is whether it's actually on land, or if it's an attachment worn by somebody within shouting range of you and your girlfriend at the time of the forwarded conversation(s).

From what I can gather it's not exclusive to me as I was not the first eavesdropped person as it were. The same has happened to her before at another place she rented and also my island has only been in existence for some 2 weeks. Therefore, I would presume the origin has to move. That's about my the stage of my thinking too. The house she has is the same one as at her previous location so maybe there's an implanted bug somewhere in the house. And of course she is the same AV as then and maybe something is attaching itself to her or someone keeps attaching something to her and it becomes detached when she TP's away. For reference, Object Entry, Create and Run Scripts are set to Group Only and autoreturn is on and set to instant return.

From: Sy Beck The same has happened to her before at another place she rented [...] The house she has is the same one as at her previous location so maybe there's an implanted bug somewhere in the house. Immediately after my last reply (ain't that always how it goes?), I realized what Void got right away: there's enough information in the quoted IMs to show that the object belonged to the tenant and was located at MumbleIsland (110, 216, 126) at the time it was transmitting. So, if it were an attachment, it would have to be *her* attachment, which as you point out, must have been detached at the time, so that's kind of unlikely--especially if the origin of transmissions is always in the same sim as the tenant's house, wherever she's renting. (If it moved around to other sims she just visits, then an attachment would be implicated.) If that (110, 216, 126) location is not the tenant's house, and if there's nothing else there now, then perhaps something is (or was) just traveling around the sim, listening. There could be a script in the house that rezzes a spy-bug when it detects that the tenant has left the sim, and that object could possibly delete itself after a while, too, I suppose. (I don't see any overlap with known bugs in llInstantMessage, now that I understand better what's going on. In addition to frequently losing messages, the function seems to sometimes send to a different agent than the specified recipient--which is very confusing, but clearly not what's happening here.)

Being followed by a chatspy is fun! When you see one, do NOT let on that you know about it. "Hey, did you hear, the owners of sim X set out $L 50k money prize on their money tree for anyone to get?" "No way, do they?" "Yeap - it usually pops up between 2am and 5am Monday mornings but most people don't know that - it's quite a draw for their sim!" ...and that's only the beginning. It's nothing to get a chatspy user to do stupid things, and if done right, they will even reveal themselves. Finding out exactly what avatar they are is just one false gender-bending romance rumour away. That stuff spreads like wildfire.

This sounds exactly like a chat relay product that can also be used as a chat bug. It has an invisible option also and sadly, a script that can be inserted into anything. She was probably given a "gift" with the script in it. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Horns%20of%20Hattin/206/237/87 That is where it is sold. DO NOT buy the XProtector. I doesn't work and the maker wont reply to requests for support or refunds.

"...and autoreturn is on and set to instant return."
There is no "instant" return, the shortest time is 1 min, if it's set to 0 it is off.
