I recently had another 'ghost' avatar stuck near my home, despite their profile saying 'offline'. I submitted a ticket to LL and the situation has been resolved promptly.
But I was wondering about what happens when someone's a ghost avatar. If someone gets ghosted, does that mean that sometimes they can't log in until the ghost is cleared? I know that's not always the case because I crashed and relogged and someone else at the same venue said I remained as a ghost while I was relogging. But if sometimes people can't relog because they're ghosted, would that be an explanation of some of the people who post messages like: 'I've been banned from SL and I don't know why' - when in fact they're not banned, just prevented from loggin in by their ghost?

Often a person can't log in to SL until their inworld presence has been cleared, but often they can. It seems to depend on how much information has been retained by the servers when a person has logged off or been logged off from the system.
And I am sure some people think they have been banned from SL when in fact they have just got a ghost somewhere.
If someone is banned from SL, they will get an email from LL telling them so.
If they are unable to login because they are ghosted somewhere inworld, they will get a message up on the screen "... account unavailable until (--.--) Pacific Time..."
Of course, sometimes people simply can't relog into SL because something has gone unexpectedly wrong - and its always worth checking the Second Life website Grid Status before uninstalling and reinstalling.

We had a ghost on Bishara for almost 2 weeks. I IM'd the guy several times and he was in world but on other sims. His ghost being on the sim didn't affect him in fact, he came and took a pic w/ his ghost lol
