Just a glitch, or do ya'll tink dis is LL's way of killing off bot zombie traffic?

If so... what do ya tink? Good idea from LL, or bad?

What would this actually effect Bot-Wise??

Just the bots profile picks?

Just a glitch - they're never going to get rid of bots or unverifieds.

I think that, for the most part, people born _after_ June of 2006 don't care a whole lot about unverifieds. The overwhelming majority of people in SL don't even know that there was a time when you had to verify.

It costs a grand total of $0 to add payment info to all 500 of your alts. It'll stop nothing.

Well since with the new search the Picks a trafficbot has would be as valuable as the traffic it generates I guess it would reduce the value of trafficbots as far as the new search goes.

Just a guess.

How many unique payment info set would one use. The same one for all 500? :)

What if LL then enforce a limit on the number of alts that can be linked to an email or a payments info?
It's easy to generate 100s of unique email addresses.
I suspect it would be a lot more troublesome to generate hundreds of unique payment info sets.

I think they removed the ALT limit for everyone, though.

What if LL does ....?

We're talking about what they've done, not what they hypothetically may do. Until they make further changes, and actually start tracking people a lot better, this still doesn't change anything.

I guess we're all DOOMED then :(
Rats!!!

Such negativity!!! ;)

However, come the day when LL decide to hammer the database with a simple query to total accounts by unique email or payment info, then they'd have a hit list of payment/email IDs with more than x accounts associated with them.

With the limitation of 25 on the number of group memberships, I can see why some people could have a business reason to have large numbers of alts.
However, a cluster of associated accounts measured in three figures ought to ring alarm bells.

LL already have some way to count unique customers, because they use it when generating the economic statistics for amounts cashed out.

You're absolutely right. The only way around this I can think of: Is if Linden considered all accounts with the same payment info on file as 'One Account' for index purposes, and totaled accordingly.

No, it's not the end of bots, and the idea that no payment info prevents avs from showing in search isn't new, or even true, unless something has changed since we had a thread about it in the recent past (not Wildefire's thread), when avs with no payment info were found showing in search. In that thread, we didn't discover what causes an av to be shown in search. Wildefire's thread is interesting though, as people's tests may uncover the secret.

LL has a limit(as far as i know) of how many alt accounts can be linked to one email address(i think its 5, unless they changed it to inflate their numbers). but with all the new web hosts offering free email accounts, its quite possible to have up to 500+ accounts.
