I'm currently running sl on an older computer and as you can imagine some areas in SL don't work out to well for me, so my question is this: is there anything i can do in world to boost SLs performance, for instance messing with the debug menu? any and all help is greatly appreciated!

The biggies are:

- reduce draw distance (in preferences)
- keep inventory low
- don't waer huge amounts of prims
- clear cache once in a while

In debug:

- turn off clouds
- turn off other stuff you don't mind not seeing

turn terrain detail to lowest setting.

you'd be surprised how much terrain slows you down.

I have this on a sticky - sorry, I copied this a long time ago (don't really need it), so I can't tell you from who I copied it...

Run in Window = OFF (no tic mark)
in the drop down box, pick 800x640

Draw Distance = 64

GRAPHICS DETAIL:

Shaders:

NO 'Vertex Shaders'
NO 'Bumpmapping and Shiny'

The 4 Sliders for Detail, set at about 1/2 way.

ADV. GRAPHICS:

Filtering OFF Anisotropic Filtering
NO OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects

Graphics Card Memory tic the largest available radio Button

Fog=4.0
Max. Particle Count = 2048

Another thing I do is to turn off 'show avatar names'... it's very useful if you're in an area where there are lots of people....

Regarding the graphics card memory.... and I was told this by a Linden...

Whatever size your graphics memory is...for instance if it's 64K, then choose '32k' in options....don't know why this works but it seems to work for me....
