Abandoned land

There is a smaller parcel apparently abandoned between two of my large parcels that hasn't had anyone on it for 5 months (I check it every day to see if it's for sale or anyone has been there). Is there a way I can find out about buying it? (hopefully the Lindens would give me first stab since it is sandwiched between 2 of mine.) Thanks for any pointers.

YOu have to file a support ticket. Give as much detail as possible. The coordinates of the land in question, your land's coordinates and let them know you are an end user (as opposed to a land flipper) very much interested in the land.

You used to be able to IM Guy Linden directly, but that method does not work anymore. Good luck!

Get the cordinates and contact the estate team I think. Or maybe you put in a support ticket.

Why does anyone abandon land?

They don't realize they can set it for L$.1 per meter less than the base on the mainland for sale page and sell it instantly, I guess. Probably, it's someone who ran into performance problems and just said "To hell with it". They might not have been able to even log in after an update.

Before contacting LL, I'd check that the current owner of the land doesn't show up in search any more. If they do show up in Search>People, LL won't touch it..

I just heard of someone a few days ago that had. The first tried to sell their 512sq.m. parcel for L$10,000. They had it like that for a long time with no sale. Then they tried to sell it for L$5,000 for a day. Still no sale. So then they just abandoned it.

Another example. Someone bought five 512sq.m. snowland parcels from me in October and combined them into one 2560sq.m. I fly by a few weeks later and notice the land is now owned by Gov. Linden. No idea why.

/me wonders if that applies to 16m plots with ads/prims on them.

A neighbour of one of my plots abandoned a few thousand metres of land (bordering a Linden waterway) a while back.
She had bought a number of adjacent plots and started building.
A week or so later she had abandoned the bulk of it.

I assume that it was a last minute decision just before her bill date. Maybe she had to log out and didn't want to risk a sale even at land-bot-bait prices.
- Abandon land.
- Tier level is positively reduced? Yup!
- Log out
She kept a small plot.

She's not gone off search. She even owns land beside the abandoned plot :)

According to Sindy's post. LL won't auction the land?
In case it was a mistake? .... but how long to wait?
In case the abandoner wants it back? .... but what about the unpaid tier in the interim?

IF LL won't touch land abandoned by an active owner, is this a way to reduce tier without losing land????

I don't suppose we'll ever get an answer from LL on this.

If somebody still owns the land, LL won't touch it, regardless of the size.

If they abandoned it via the Abandon button, I think the owner will get set back to Governor Linden. If the owner isn't the 'Gov and the owner still shows up in search, LL will absolutely not touch it.

There is an entire island near me that was claimed in 2004. It looks like it has never been touched. The outline of the land is exactly the same as one of the four default shapes that islands come in. There are no buildings and I have never seen anyone else there.

Strictly speaking it can't be abandoned as someone must be paying tier on it month after month or it would have been removed.

It's a deeply depressing place.

Why would someone do that?

I have also seen people who want to tier down redivide their parcels and abandon, rather than sell, the land along the outer edge. Selling it would mean neighbors or ads or heaven knows what else so they abandoned it becasue it used to take LL so long to relist it at auction. From the sound of things this would be a much riskier thing to do now.

I tried to buy a 1024 sguare plot of abandoned land next to my place a few weeks ago. I contacted support and was told that the only way such land was resold now was by auction. When the auction came up I bid and was in the lead right up to the very last minutes but someone else got the land. But the new owner has done nothing with the land except put a a flat on the ground advert for their real estate business hinting that the land is for sale although it is still auction purple on the map.

Since then some other land near mine has all been abandoned to the Gov'ner and divided into 16m plots.

The purple stuff is, I think, a bug. I snagged a few parcels a couple months ago but they're still purple on the map and About Land still shows the auction IDs. The deal is all done, though - paid for and everything.

I added a support ticket for this last night, mostly just an FYI to LL since it doesn't really impact me, but haven't heard back. Maybe Monday..

Or you have deeded your land to a group because you want to share it with your partner. He/she gets miffed and clicks on the blue button -gone-!! Of course they usually blow your house up first. I know someone that this has happened to.

unused land and prims

Its quite common for people to buy extra plots of land to increase their prim limit on that sim - as the prims are shared across all the parcels of land an owner has on the sim.

If that's the case, then the owner of the empty land may be using the land for prims elsewhere on the sim. You can check if this might be the case by standing on the land and selecting the following menu:

world -> about land -> objects

The first part of this is as follows, where A, B, C, D and E are numbers of prims

simulator primitive usage: A out of B (C available)
primitives parcel supports: D
primitives on parcel: E

If the parcel of land is the only land that the owner has in that sim, then values B and D will be the same. If B is larger than D, then the owner has land elsewhere in the sim. The value A tells you how many prims they have in total on that sim.

I usually put something on a parcel of land if I have it just for prims, such as a low prim building or a tree and some flowers - just to show that someone still wants it. A lot of people just leave the land empty though, and it may be supporting a high prim building, mall or club somewhere else on the sim. The owner of the land may not be able to sell the land without reducing their prim use elsewhere.

(I only have experience of land on private island estate, but I assume mainland is just the same.)

They resolved this last night - pretty good turn-around time!! To fix it, they apparently need to reclaim the parcels then set them back to sale to me at L$0.

If you have this problem, and a premium alt or somebody you trust, try selling them land to them and having them sell it back to you. If that doesn't work, a support ticket will let them know about the problem and they'll (probably) reclaim the land and set it back to sale to you.
