anybiody know a sneaky way around it?

Make friends with whomever is in charge of the IT dept. Ply them with cookies and donuts. Bat your eyes and mention how much you would love to have access to a certain site...

Did they block just the forums or browsing websites in general? Maybe use a proxy website. Just search that in google.

The bigger the company is the better your chance of being able to bribe an IT guy. You should work on getting moles and informants in every major department. Want to know about upcoming promotion opportunities? Have someone in HR that loves you. Want a little web access? IT. Want the really nice computer and a comfortable chair? Purchasing dept.

I know it sounds tongue in cheek, but with a company that big, you can really set up a nice network.

meh... the bigger the organisation, the more their discipline & conduct rules tend to apply on an impartial basis. Where I am - government - we can use the interwebz for things like the fora (but definitely NOT for chat rooms) and of course SL itself is totally out of the question.

Look at your organisation's internet access policy. Then consider how much you like your current job.

who said anything about company time? people get breaks, lunches, etc....

I worked for a company that didn't mind web use during breaks, they did block porn sites (which I was thankful for as the only woman in a lab full of male hormones).

some do some don't... they DO pay for all that bandwidth, and skating around limits by using proxies MIGHT work, but you CAN be fired for it.... talk to your local IT person, if they ok it, you're pretty good to go
