Disappearing L$

Ok have been noticing for several weeks now that my L$ reserve has been creeping down ever so slowly at seemingly *random* intervals. To test my theory I at one point let a friend hold my L$ reserves while I remained with 1L$ and 0L$ on two different occassions.

After a few days in both situations the ammount lost a linden, now with money in your account 1L$ is not a big thing...however logging on to find -1L$ after not buying anything is a bit suspicious.

Anyone have any idea what might be making me lose money like this?

Personally I'm suspecting a third party AO hud (typical freebie ZhaoII) somehow got a worm style virus/code added and is sending someone this money in small amounts so it might not be 'noticed' (much as a worm might steal an electronic penny from a bank system on every ATM use, chances are one would never notice it electronicly but the hacker given enough time and enough 'victims' is making a fair chunk of change)

Hopefully its just SL being what it is but even still would like some peace of mind that I'm not slowly being ripped off...

haha, stupid.

you lose money on money permissions
you lose money on group owned land if noone carries that land but you have group dividends title
you lose money while being drunk.

I noticed that one of the groups I belong to deducted L$1 'group liability'. I didn't know groups could do that but it's on my transaction history in blue and white.

Just look at the transaction history and all your questions will be answered: https://secure-web6.secondlife.com/account/transactions.php?lang=en

It will show exactly where your money is going although it probably is group dividends getting you.

this is kindof related ..

is it possible that the Owner of a group can change the role to one that assigns group liabilities without that person who is now on the hook getting a notice?

I occasionally have to koin groups so I can do my magic tricks on other peoples land.. sometimes I see that I am funding some of these groups without even knowing until the charge shows up on the statment.

Yes it's possible. You don't get any kind of notice when the roles you are in are editted.

When a group owns land and that land is set to "appear in search" this costs the group L$30 per week per parcel that is listed. These liabilities are added up and deducted on Tuesday mornings. The amount is divided among all group members for whom the 'pay liabilities/receive dividends' ability is enabled. By default this ability is enabled for the 'everyone' role.

I'm not sure how the calculation works when there are enough members that the division works out to less than L$1 each, but I believe it takes from some folks one week, then other folks the next week.

As far as I know, this is the *only* way group liabilities occur. Paying a fee to join a group is different, and groups cannot just deduct money from members no matter what.

Only the owners and members who can change abilities can actually uncheck the group liability selection; be sure to contact the group owners and let them know. In all probability they have no idea that the option is selected.

In helping a friend locating missing Linden Dollars yesterday, by going through her transactions history, we found she'd been hit in a freebie scam. She had been in a place offering a lot of freebies for sale at 0L- with an occasional, random 195L item scattered in. The place gets you used to clicking through those 0L transactions so you miss the hidden 195L boxes.

Please do contact the group owner if that is how the money is being deducted...for group fees. Several groups of mine have had the permissions switched more than once without me knowing it. Until a group member notifies me, I have no way to know that the weird SL glitches have caused the change again.

I second this. I had two separate instances of joining new dance clubs and noticed the 1L deductions. This option is apparently set to "everyone" by default. In my case, both club owners had no idea of that and immediately changed that (and refunded my lindens).

Yeah, well it is also that LL makes it the default for the 'everyone' role, so people with their first group also don't know it. And it is near the end of pages and pages of choices. Ripe to be rife with grief...

It *used* to deduct the L$30 from 30 random members each week. However, we have had a ticket on for the Forum Cartel group for many months because it was not taking the money from anyone, but just making the group liability more and more negative each week. Finally LL *suggested* that it might be waiting until there was enough due that it could take L$1 from everyone. That definitely is not how it used to work, but does appear to be what finally happened - on the 16th of Dec, EVERY member of the group was charged L$1 and if they originally have a balance of L$0, they simply went negative.

I have updated the ticket with LL to give them all of the new info and to tell them that I personally do not think they should ever take a member negative because of that and if they had continued doing the random 30 people thing like they did a couple of years ago, things would be working a lot better.

Been there, done that. I can get upset with the seller for tossing the higher cost items in there, but in the end I can really only be upset with myself for being in too big of a hurry to really read each and every sale value.

yeah thanks for the heads up about this 'group liability' thing that transaction history link definately solved where the money kept vanishing. Will have to hammer on the group (or its owner) about this little issue. Thanks people! :D
