K here is the problem. my sister n i own land that sits adjucent to a latger parcel owned by someone else. quite by accident i discovered a spy gizmo buried under our property that is capable of telling its owner the location conversation position of a victim avatar...and even takes pictures!! wraps up the pics with the report in a pretrty package and emails to its owner. this little gem was programed with my sisters name for its victim...spelled out quite clearly. and listed our neighbor as its owner. we cannot remove it. we cannot return it we cannot do anything but wave as it snaps our photo. surely this isnt legal? has anyone a plan to tell me that i may follow? ty ty tyvm

Isn't spying on people's conversation, copying it, emailing it, etc against the ToS?
This is nasty business - I'd AR it without delay. (before telling the owner that you found the item) I'd also try to find out why your sister is being targeted. Maybe the owner of this thing is just playing with a new toy, but I'd try to find out if they've had any previous run-ins, perhaps in alt form. Not sure how someone can rez something on your property, though. . _____________________

If it is burried under your land you must be able to return it. But not after AR-ing the owner first.
If this would happen to me, I would try Live Chat as well, and try to nail the sucker any way possible. Get as many friends to AR the device as well, so the message comes through clear. Good luck, Marcel _____________________

this is a bit strange.
1) an object can not take pictures that is a viewer function. 2) for an object to be non returnable it has to be linked to an object sitting on the nieghbouring land but that can't penetrate far into your land if there is nothing between the part on your land and the main part on the neighbouring land. 3) unless you have mod permision of your neighbour I don't think you can read scripts in an object. still if you have anything encroughing on your land, scripted or not you can simply AR it and LL or the estate owner will return it. And yes remote monitoring is a violation of the TOS |

Im just curious about a few things here. First if its your sisters land then she should be able to return the item. Period! Just right click on it and hit Return. If she cant then it is either an item shared by a group shes in (im really unsure about that one and how it would work)…not her land…or the item belongs to her. Second. How is it that you see these pictures? Has the owner showed them to you? If they have then this would seem less nefarious and more a joke that though not funny was not meant to be a “spy” device.
How do you know its been programmed with you sisters name in it? Can you see the Contents of the item in Edit? If so then its Modifiable and that seems very odd. Just me but it seems we may not be getting the whole story here. EDIT to ADD: Ive ran across similar items for sale on slexchange.com but it requires permissions be given by its target. http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=447029 _____________________

the camera part of the gadget is..i spose..remotely..done?after i found the spy part of it my freinbd did a search and says he found the...reciever? part? he took pictures of both to show their locations and took a pic of the contents in the spy part that shows my sisters name
im very clueless as to wat can and cannot be done and am simply repeating what a "script gifted" freind has told me ![]() |

ok ok…. YES!...AR the owner and then contact the owner and let them know you will continue to send ARs until the device is removed from your property!
It could be possible that permission was given to the device un-wittingly, but this sounds like something for the Lindens to sort out. Good Luck ![]() _____________________

Welcome to the forums.
Yeah, may as well AR it and get rid of it, but I kinda doubt it's quite what it appears to be. The "spy pictures" thing is where there must be some confusion somewhere. In order for a "picture" to be taken in-world, the viewer recording the picture must be operating an avatar that's reasonably close to whatever is being "photographed." The closer the better because some content (a smallish prim, for example) just won't be sent to the viewer of a more remote agent regardless of cam position and drawing distance. So if somebody is taking pictures, that somebody will have to be pretty close--within, say, 100m for a possibly tolerable amount of missing content. But okay, maybe there's a bold or reckless spy somewhere nearby. Then yeah, a "sender" could be scripted to sense the target's presence and location and make it easier to position the spy's cam near and pointed toward the target (nothing the spy couldn't do manually, but it could save some effort). To be able to position the cam automatically, the spy would have to either wear or sit on another scripted object--those are the only things in which cam-controlling scripts will work). Given the need for an attachment or sat-upon object, an unattached receiver prim just lying around seems... superfluous at best. It really does sound more like something set up to *look* like a spy device, rather than something that would actually be of much use to a spy. _____________________
