Hi everyone. I made a big mistake the other day on Welfare Island. It was during the restart and when I TP'ed I saw alot of camps where it said that $$ was earned. I st down on one, and when I got up it gave me that $$. I thought this was a glitch, so I went to the other seats I saw.
Someone told me that I was stealing after someone asked me what I was doing and I told them in open chat. Nothing to hide. After questioning the person who accused me, I gave the $$ back to her and waited around to see if anyone else came forward. After a few minutes I crashed. Whan I got back on, I went back to the spot to cotinue waiting. It was a newbie mistake and I was willing to fix it.
I got an IM from the leader tonight saying I was banned. I tried to explain, but there was no listening on their part. At the end, I did smart off over their unreasonable attitude, but this was after many attempts to explain things.
My questions are: 1) does anyone know how I can get in touch w/ the person so I can say I'm sorry for smarting off, even though he was a jerk. I don't remember his name.
2) Does anyone know this person that could help me get back into his good graces? I want to apologize regardless, but I hate the idea of someone thinking I'm a thief even in SL, and I really loved his place.
TIA Kat

There is no way for anyone to help you unless you describe exactly where you were and who you talked to. I think you will find that most people in the forums have no experience in camping chairs and free money but I may be wrong.
We have other ways of earning our Lindens.

From: Colette Meiji How can you be a thief when they are just GIVING the money away? /me is confused I imagine that it's a poorly scripted camping system, where if one camper logs off via crash or restart, another person can come and take the money they earned upon sitting there.

as far as being banned, OMG NOOOO not that, guess you will have to check out the millions of other interesting places instead, believe me you wont remember the name of this place after 15 or so hours exploring the world

I don't entirely get what happen. I don't know there side but it sounds like you did nothing wrong. Unless only their friends and bots are suppose to be paid but the person who was in charge didn't do the right things to make that possible. Camping you often get paid when you stand up if there is money to be had. I went to Welfare Island once it just seemed like it was one of those Hippie pay you by scamming you into give personal information and spamming your email sites. Sounds like you just found area they didn't want just anyone to use. Just find some other place to hang out or camp if you can and just write off as one of those weird, strange newbie experiences. Be careful there are places that seem to boot you off due to scripts, lag or crashing but they say they pay such and such and you won't see a dime. find a job or buy the lindens. Or bet yet don't bother wasting time on if you can with places like that. Camping isn't a activity the owner does because they are being generous often its way to create false sense of higher traffic. Camping right now is incredibly hard to find and the places that are out there are either very low pay, scams, or only geared for owner's bots. P.S. Forgot to say welcome to Second Life.

Get a job it pays much better. Just something simple like a bartender if you'd like. You'll find that one short shift as a bartender almost anywhere may not bring in much but a helluva lot more than camping will.
Once you get out and look around you wont even miss Welfare Island. Plenty of other low paying camping chairs without all the chaos and lag.
As for what he thinks of you? He's forgotten about you already.

Hi Katherine! Welcome to SL. If I understand you, then Christalle above is right. It sounds like what happened is that you came along shortly after a sim crash, and the camping chairs already had accumulated totals that other AVs had made while camping. When you sat, the chair attributed their total to you, and gave you the whole amount when you stood, right?
Don't worry about it. This is a bug in that particular camping script; they should handle that condition. Most are written to actually reset to zero on rez, so the original campers lose their accumulated totals anyway.
When I was new, I came along after the camping chairs at Whittenton's had crashed and made $L400 or so very quickly! I then felt horrible, and asked an employee about it, who laughed and said to enjoy the Lindens.
Have fun, and do enjoy those Lindens!

Welcome to SL! Sounds like either an error in the camping software, an unreasonable region owner and that somebody might have screwed you out of money. ... or a combination of these three. Well, to most people here camping is a waste of time, money (your home computer resources) and system resources anyway. You will be better off if you just transfer in some $$ and go on a shopping spree instead. Also, there are other ways to make money which are definitely more fun than hanging around in a laggy and boring camping outfit. Don't worry about being banned there. If you really want to camp, this leaves about 9999 others.

If you go into your account page on the website here you can look at all your transactions for anyday and it will list who you gave the money to or recieved it from

Hi Katherine - welcome to SL. I haven't tried camping for a very long time, but to be honest, the only good reason I could find for doing it was when I needed to sort out my inventory and just wanted to sit somewhere whilst I did it. Everyone else here has written a lot of good sense, so don't worry about it. Take a good look round the metaverse - there are heaps of better things to do than camping. If you are less than 30 days old, you can pick from the money trees - I found this a good way to start because TPing round the money trees took me to a lot of different places. I took a good look round them all and met people and learnt a lot on my travels.

keep in mind though, a lot of money trees now require the account to have payment info on file

There is really nothing you can do. I got caught in a similar situation once. A griefer was leaving large objects on land next to mine. I called in the landowner who cleared the objects but he mistook me for the griefer and banned and muted me. He didn't answer any IM's so I ended up banned from the land next to mine for doing a good turn. I'm sure it was a mistake but there was no way of getting through.

Thanks guys, you have made me feel much better. Your interpretations of what happened are correct, and my transactions only showed the one person who I gave back the money to. Ironically, I think she is the one that reported me.
Can someone explain how the money trees work? I wentto one, but I couldn't do anything. I will look into jobs. I'm still learning about all the ways to make money in SL. It's a wonderful place that I wish I had found sooner.

It's a wonderful place that I wish I had found sooner. Money trees spawn little 'paper lindens' periodically, and sometimes fruit worth 5-10 lindens each. Its semi-random throughout the day and each tree is set to give out a certain amount in a 24 hour period. Getting money that way is sort of a random thing as you teleport around to a list of them and only chance lands you at one when there is anything there to get. If they use a linden tree, using ctl-alt-shift-3 (on a PC, don't know the mac equiv) will make the tree disappear and allow you to see if there are any Lindens available quickly. Don't forget to hit the shortcut again to turn trees back on or your in-world experience will be reduced a bit by their lacking. If they use prim trees, the shortcut won't help and you'll have to find the Lindens in the branches. Char

From: Annabelle Babii Put up a big sign on the edge of the parcel saying "Hey moron - you banned the person who helped you" LOL.....that's what I was thinkin. Any hoo....to the original poster. After the sim crashed and you went back there were chairs that still had money accumulated from the campers who crashed. Thing is, unless those campers were not AFK and were aware of the crash, chances are they would not have come back to collect their money before some other person came along and sat down as you did yourself and got it before they did. For any one to continue to camp after the crash they would have to sit in one of the chairs, therefore any money on them was automatically put in that person account due to faulty scripts. Simple as that. It's the owner's stupid fault for having faulty scripts on his chairs. I've collected lots of Lindens from crashes due to this little bug. BTW...it was very kind of you to give the money back to that one person...most people would not have done so.

my 2$L, because 2 cents is too expensive if the people that left these chairs out, knew about this problem, then it's their owb damn fault for leaving them out.... heck they should offer you a bonus if they didn't know about the problem since you accidently found it for them and really, why should they care who gets camping money, unless they are somehow trying to scam the campers by ejecting them before they can collect? in which case, do YOU really care what they think? or want to shop there? Iwouldn't... if they'll scam one person, customers aren't far behind
