Link to install SL & Emerald wont work!

Hi, I am hoping someone out there can help me, I did a restore to earlier date on my pc due to other problems, and now I cannot log in to SL as its the outdated viewer, but when I try to install from either the SL page or the Emerald, I click in the lniks to download and absolutely nothing happens. The address shows briefly at the bottom of screen but doesnt load. If I manually type the adrress in the address bar nothing happens either.
Starting to panic now, hoping against hope someone can help this very non technical resednt.

I'm not sure what's causing this, but can you right click on the DL link and say "Save"?

Do you mean you are using the message on the login page, "You are not using the latest version, click here to download"?

Don't do that.

Open your web browser, and manually go to the download page, download and SAVE (not RUN) the file. Do the same for Emerald, using the http://www.modularsystems.sl website.

Open the downloaded files and run them.
