IM/chat Spying

Does anyone know the link to see if and whos ben spying on your Ims....someone gave it to me once. cant seem to find it....thanks for the help

i've heard of glitches that may land your IM's in the wrong place..but i never knew there was a way to actually do it on purpose..

There are ways of spying on Chat -- there is no way to spy on IMs (unless possibly with some hacked client)

As far as I know, all of the Chat spying has to be done with either an object rezzed on the land or an object that you wear. Find that object and the owner is the person spying on you.

do you save your IMs and Chat logs on your HD ?

not all the time..

I've built relays for other uses that may have person's name as owner but it doesn't relay to them. You can set the script to IM anyone you want, doesn't matter who owns or created the object.

People cannot spy on your IMs. They may be able to listen to your local chat, if they've placed a chat bug on your land within hearing distance of you, or placed such a bug on your person (by giving you a wearable item with a listener/relay script in it).

I had a bit of a shock the other night, though. Someone who was far off in another sim sent me a green-text message in my local chat. He was using a multifunction gadget a bit like a MystiTool...but this one allows you to "spank" another av...even a remote one.

I really suspect that if there were a way for people to listen in on IM's, outraged word would've gotten out by now. There would be SO many rumors... maybe it's possible, but given the lack of screaming, I'd say it seems unlikely. /me waves to Linnie!

There are only 2 ways;
1 you safe logs localy and someone else using your computer reads these logs.
2 a gridmonkey linden using the debug functions of a sim to see IMs as they go trough the sim

nearly all reports of IM spying that I seen go back to option 1, either localy or using a trojan horse witha remote access program.

I could swear that hacking into IM is possible. I have had someone, on a few occasions, answer a question or comment on something I had just said via IM to someone else there. And I really do not think they had IMed or knew each other (who knows).

In one case I am thinking of the person was a scripter and owned the sim.

I've seen gadgets that claim to spy IMs but are actually just channel scanners (they listen to hidden channels and relay to the owner), and llInstantMessage is a command in lsl that will send "green-text" to a target avatar anywhere ont he grid

But as far as I know, only Lindens can read your IMs (it's different for saved logs on your machine), I've heard rumors that Lindens keep a log of all conversations in SL on their servers, they usually don't check it, but in cases involving the law or somthing they can.

I would bet that they save conversations for a bit of time to check them against stuff sent to them in AR reports.

As to keeping them very long - because of the way most laws are written, it is actually better for them if they do not (though they may anyway) There are no laws that say they must keep these types of conversation logs and keeping them would actually make it easier for the legal folks to come request them.

There have been reports of IMs getting delivered to the wrong person at times, so that is possible.

i've had cases where a group im had started and it show up as a users name instead of the group..but soon others talk in there and it's like..oh lag lol
