I've seen this mentioned here before, but have yet to see an answer, and since I saw this myself recently I thought I would ask.
Recently I was wandering a sim and came across an avatar whos name bubble had 3 lines. I checked it out carefully and it was not an attachment or particle it was his actual name bubble. His group name had two lines, the last line being his name of course.
I IM'd him asking how he did it but he never replied.
Did anyone ever figure out how to do this?
Handy.

You are mistaken. 3 word names are not possible.

I imagine that putting a line break (\n) in the Group tag will do it but I haven't tried it.

Please put the subject of your question in the subject of the post. We can help you a lot better that way. A moment of your time saves hundreds of moments of others' time.

You used to be able to use "\r" to get separate lines, and "\n" to do other interesting things that were undesirable. It was intentionally blocked so you shouldn't be able to make titles with those characters anymore, but indeed I still see a few. My only guess is somehow those titles are just left over from before.

I believe there was recently a way to do it, but I'm not sure such things can be discussed publicly.

if the input is only checked via the viewer it should be possible to do with with LibSL, though that's a long way to go just to get a title...
it also might be possible (and likely) that certain foreign language versions or character sets aren't completely checked or sanitized.

I've seen the group title wrap to two lines if it's extremely long, and there are other AVs around. The bubble algorithm will do it's best to fit the name tags in and get them as close to the avatar they belong to.

I know there was one quite well known land dealer who had a single word name - even in their profile it was just one name, with no gaps. I could even say the name, but I mustn't!

Voldemort? (Making a Harry Potter joke I hope that isn't the name of the person in question. Jes makin the obvious joke)

From: Void Singer if the input is only checked via the viewer it should be possible to do with with LibSL, though that's a long way to go just to get a title... No so far for GridProxy The way this was actually found is we were playing with using GridProxy plugins to automatically animate the group title, and someone ended up with a title that caused everyone's viewer to crash. Looking at secondlife.log it became clear the crash was happening because the title had used the 20 byte maximum and neglected a terminating null byte, so some trash had been added to the end of the title, but the trash included an \n char. Because \n is the only thing separating the Title from other NameValues in the ObjectUpdate message, the trash ended up being read as an invalid NameValue and the viewer would quit. Given that, though, it only a step away to instead use \n followed by a NameValue that changed the avatar name in the nametag. The fix was server-side, sometime around Oct 10 2008. From: Void Singer it also might be possible (and likely) that certain foreign language versions or character sets aren't completely checked or sanitized. I broke down and learned a bit about UTF-8, in particular, "overlong encodings," to try to see if there's still a way to create those titles, without success... I believe if there's still a way to create those titles, people must've found something especially obscure!
